Handbag Design Class: Foundations of Bag Design

Professional bag design begins long before the first sketch – and this introductory leatherworking course in Woolwich gives you the essential foundation to get there.You'll build a genuine understanding of how handbags are actually constructed, the materials they're made from, the different product categories, and the realities of the fashion accessories industry – all the things that let designers make informed creative decisions and develop products that are desirable, commercially viable, and set up to succeed once launched. Rather than teaching you to design bags without the knowledge to do it properly, this course focuses on building the understanding you need to create realistic products, navigate how the industry works, and recognise the skills and expertise behind becoming a handbag designer.Through discussion and practical exercises, you'll explore the different categories and styles of bags, along with construction methods, materials, reinforcements, components and manufacturing terminology – developing the confidence to analyse and distinguish products, understand the design decisions behind them, and prepare yourself for more technical or creative courses ahead.Best for:
