Hand Building and Decorating Pottery Workshop for Beginners

Learn the fundamentals of how to pinch, coil, and decorate your pots.

2 hours Class size 4 to 6 guests       £65 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Welcome to my peaceful artist's studio in Haggerston, East London, near Shoreditch and Dalston – a place where you can create beautiful ceramics away from the city's hustle.
If you've never made pottery before (or did so a long time ago), this is a great and accessible way to get you started with clay – I will guide you through the basics of making pottery, and then we'll have fun creating surface decorations, using tools and stained slip. What you create is up to your imagination: a small plant pot, a coffee cup, a trinket dish...
A few days after your workshop, when the clay bone dry, your pots will be fired a first time, then glazed with a transparent or white glaze, before a second firing at high temperature.
Please bear in mind that due to the unpredictable nature of ceramics, the results cannot be guaranteed – that's just part of the fun!
What you'll get
At the end of the session, I'll invite you to choose which of your creations (up to 2 small pieces) you would like fired.
Your creations will be ready for collection at the studio within 8 weeks' time (you will receive a confirmation email inviting you to collect).
Knowledge required
Totally beginner-friendly!
What to bring
Please bring an apron with you, and some clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Long nails should be trimmed.

I'm Violaine, a ceramic artist working from my studio in Haggerston, East London. I discovered my love for working with clay in 2018, after attending a few hand building and throwing classes, and a few years later left my career as a Design and Art Director to pursue my adventures in ceramics full-time.
I'm constantly exploring new techniques, recently focusing on the sgraffito surface pattern design technique, and pushing my skills to throw ever bigger vessels on the wheel.
With five years of teaching experience at a renowned London pottery studio, I invite beginner and intermediate potters to join me in my lovely artists' studio, where I offer a supportive environment to learn and create.
