Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of street art with a graffiti experience in London. During this unique activity, Immerse yourself in London’s vibrant street art and graffiti scene with a unique experience in London’s South Bank and the iconic Leake Street tunnel — famously known as the Banksy Tunnel.

Your experience begins with a guided street art and graffiti tour lead by our qualified Art teacher and local street artist. Exploring artwork around the South Bank before heading into Leake Street, one of London’s most famous legal graffiti locations. Discover the history, stories and ever-changing artwork that make this underground space such an important part of London’s street art culture.

After the tour, it’s time to leave your own mark on the tunnel!

Each participant will receive their own Street Art Paint Pack, containing:

2 colours of professional spray paint

Protective mask

Gloves

You’ll then have the freedom to find your own space on the legal graffiti walls and paint, experiment and create independently, becoming part of the constantly changing artwork of Leake Street.

There’s no need for any previous spray-painting experience and no pressure to create something perfect — simply enjoy the atmosphere, get creative and experience the excitement of adding your own piece to one of London’s most iconic street art locations.

Because Leake Street is a live, legal graffiti space, the walls are constantly changing. Your artwork may last a day, an hour or even just a few minutes — and that’s all part of the experience!

Our host Alan was super friendly and engaging, extremely knowledgeable and himself active in the street art community, and highly professional. He had many great stories about the artists and the techniques they employ to share, and showed us some memorable classics. Toward the end he set us up with the equipment and the encouragement to have a go ourselves, and we all really enjoyed this. TOP TIP: wear clothes and shoes that it’s OK to splatter a bit of paint on, just in case!

Both are working artists, and Catherine (sorry if misspelt!) is an art teacher with many years of experience, including with neurodivergent children. They took us around the Leake Road tunnels telling us about prominent works of art by established and unknown artists; they told us about the history of the place, and explained about the techniques and subcultures of graffiti artists. It was absolutely enthralling to learn about the street art culture from two people who have been actively involved in the scene their whole lives. From simply an anthropological/sociological perspective alone, I found it brilliant, but as a distinct art form in itself it was totally fascinating. Alan and Catherine’s knowledge of street art was excellent. They were very friendly and so easy to talk to. We each got to learn how to work with spray paint, as they guided each of us, helping us to make beautiful pieces of art to take home, and of course making our marks on Leake’s tunnels themselves. Our family had such a great time! If you are looking for a fun, unique day with the family I would urge you to definitely book this workshop. We loved every minute of it!

We started with about a 20 min tour of the tunnel with great info on some of the artists as well as the different styles being used throughout. Then we learned how to use the paint can to get the desired look - such as fat or skinny line. I’m still working on the thin lines- it’s not as easy as it looks. I absolutely love the energy of this place and if you don’t know that the ‘Leak street arches’ are here you could easily miss it as it’s kinda hidden. The art is constantly changing as people come in and paint new stuff everyday. I’ve been to this place during the day and also walked through a couple times late at night (as late as 2am) and it always feels safe. All in all this was an amazing experience that I 100% recommend. Check out my pic of my name -Dave. It could still be there today. One thing to note if you’re trying to book within 48 hours be sure to email them. Usually online booking gets closed at that point only because they want to keep control of how many folks can sign up and make sure that everyone gets an amazing experience. Again, thank you to Kathryn and Alan for exceeding my expectations. This was completely worth it and more than five stars.

My Story

I’m Kathryn McGuinness, founder and creative lead at Cockney Green. I began life as a Londoner with a passion for what art can do — not just as decoration, but as a tool for wellbeing, connection and self-expression. Over the years I came to realise that many people feel daunted by “doing art” (thinking you have to be naturally gifted) or are locked out of creative opportunities altogether. I wanted to change that.

In 2019 I teamed up with fellow artist Alan Davies and together we built Cockney Green from the ground up: designing our mobile graffiti boards, sourcing high-quality materials, finding inspiring venues in London (including legal graffiti tunnels and art spaces) and developing workshops that bring colour, fun and confidence to everyone, regardless of age or ability. We launched birthday parties, school sessions, holiday camps, team-building experiences and community murals — all rooted in the belief that “all art is healing”.

Cockney Green

Since then we’ve painted windows for seasonal displays, delivered mindful-art and print-making classes, and teamed up with organisations to bring creative wellbeing to new audiences. Our philosophy is simple: creativity is for everyone, it opens doors, connects people, and when you leave one of our sessions you don’t just take home a piece of art — you take home a boost in confidence, a shared memory, and a bit of your own bold mark on the world.

Whether you’re looking for a joyful one-off workshop or a deeper creative journey, I’ll be there with spray-cans, stencils, hot-presses for t-shirts and tote bags, lots of colour and, most importantly, a belief that you can create something brilliant.
