In this hands-on one-day workshop, experienced artist and gilder Estitxu Garcia from Filigrana Design will teach you how to apply a variety of metal leafs onto glass using the traditional technique of Verre Eglomise.
You'll begin by learning the skills of gilding on glass using specialist tools and materials (all provided). Having mastered the basic techniques, you'll try your hand at distressing the gold and silver leaf to create a variety of finishes. You'll then move on to learning how to create designs, patterns, and drawings onto the gilded glass, transforming it into your own beautiful piece of artwork which you get to take home.
Classes are small and intimate with a maximum of 3 people per workshop, or you can choose to have a one-to-one private class. Dates are flexible, so if you would like a group class but you can't see a date that works for you, please get in touch, and we can try to accommodate.

What to bring
  • The gilding process can sometimes be messy, so make sure you're wearing clothes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty.
  • We will provide you with some sample designs, but if you have a particular design in mind, please bring it along.

I am artist with over 30 years experience, who specialises in glass gilding (or Verre Eglomise as it's also known). Using both traditional and modern gilding techniques to create intricate designs in gold, silver and copper leaf, I have been commissioned all over the world to create bespoke pieces - from standalone works of art, to decorative panels or unique pieces of furniture.
For the past 4 years, I have been sharing my knowledge of gilding on glass with students who range from absolute beginners to established gilders and artists who wish to take their skills to the next level.
It's a joy to share my years of experience in small, intimate classes and watch students fall in love with this beautiful craft.
