What you'll do
The perfect introduction to fabric screen printing, this beginner-friendly craft workshop is a great way to explore your creativity in a new way. Printing expert Holly will be guiding you through this exciting class, giving demonstrations on the process and sharing top tips as you give it a go yourself. Ideal for textile artists wanting to add unique touches to their sewing projects, you'll be coming up with your own one to two-colour designs and learning how to print them on a meter of fabric. This can then be transformed into cushion covers, tea towels and more.The first half of the day will start off with a welcome as you are taken through the studio and printing process. Learn how to coat and expose your design onto the screen and then take a 30-minute break for lunch. This is the perfect time to explore the range of food kiosks in the same building as the studio.In the afternoon you will then decide on colours, select print pastes, and set up fabric tables before giving the final print a go. Leaving you with custom screen-printed fabric to take home. Age requirement: 16

It was very helpful to actually go though the steps myself with the instructors explaining and then watching over. The workshop was really enjoyable and the time just flew by. I would definitely recommend the workshop to anyone looking for something creative and fun to do or those thinking of starting screen printing.

There was a great selection of colours, materials and I felt I have learned a lot on the day. There are few suggestions that I believe to be useful. - having more than an hour lunch break where people went to different places can be a bit isolating for people, especially the ones going by themselves. I understand that lunch is not included, but all the courses I have been before, lunch time was spent together as it is an opportunity to socialise. - we were only five people in the course, which I think its a great number to start with. I still did feel that trainers could have supported more throughout the printing process. Overall it was a great experience that I would recommend to everyone!

- 5/5 from Philippa Watson, attended Mar 2019: My boyfriend felt that the teacher made some promises and didnt deliver (his screen had a hole in, and she said he could do a new one then changed her mind, she said he could use three colours then changed her mind) however he also said that she stayed longer to help everyone finish which was lovely. He had a really great time and thought the teacher was good overall.

3rd Rail Print Space is a brand new, 4000 square feet, open access screen printing facility combining paper, t-shirt and fabric printing located in Peckham Levels -- the refurbished multi storey car park. The aim of the space was to build a comprehensive print hub and modern learning environment to make screen printing accessible to a new audience whilst providing a wealth of equipment for those already working in the medium.
