Embroidering Stories: Embroidery Art Workshop

Hi, we’re RAW Gallery — a creative social enterprise and gallery supporting brilliant artists from refugee, migrant, disability, domestic violence and other marginalised backgrounds to build sustainable creative careers through art, culture and community.RAW (which originally stood for Refugee Art Works) began with a simple belief: creativity can transform lives. We saw extraordinary artists with powerful stories and incredible talent who simply hadn’t had the opportunities, networks, confidence or financial support to thrive. So we created something different — a space where art meets empowerment.One of the things we’re most passionate about is helping our artists design and lead their own creative workshops. During a three-month incubation period, we support each artist to develop an idea, test formats, learn facilitation skills, price and finance their workshops, and build confidence in teaching. The goal is simple: for them to eventually run inspiring workshops independently, generating their own income and sharing their creativity with others.Our workshops are as diverse as the artists behind them — from embroidery and textile arts to painting, storytelling, wellbeing, cultural crafts, sustainability, creativity for mental health, and workshops inspired by global traditions and lived experiences. We welcome all ages and abilities, and believe creativity should feel joyful, inclusive and accessible.Why do we love teaching? Because workshops create something magical: connection. We’ve seen shy participants leave glowing with confidence, strangers become collaborators, and artists rediscover their own voice through helping others create. Teaching becomes part of the healing and empowerment journey — for both the artist and the participant.We’re also quietly proud of what we’ve built. RAW has exhibited during Frieze Week in London and collaborated with artists, charities and cultural partners whose work spans everything from international contemporary art to community wellbeing. But what matters most to us is this: every workshop booked helps create meaningful opportunities for artists who have often had to fight hard to be seen.Whether you’re coming alone, with family, or as a team, we’d love to welcome you into a warm, creative space where everyone can make something beautiful — and leave feeling inspired.
