Hi, I'm Aya — founder of ALT Hackney and your guide for the day!
My journey into creating all my homeware pieces started during lockdown. Having a vision of simple yet functional rectangular plant pots in my dream led me to study 3D design and 3D printing, and I ended up creating them all with eco-resin Jesmonite!
I started with concrete but soon discovered its negative environmental impacts. Instead, I switched to Jesmonite, a water-based, eco-friendly resin that's solvent-free and animal-friendly. The moment I first worked with Jesmonite and saw how a simple pour could transform into something that looked like polished stone or speckled terrazzo, I was completely hooked. I haven't stopped making since.
All my homeware products are designed and handcrafted in Hackney with real care and attention. No two pieces are ever identical—and that's exactly the point. I now create these pieces with my partner, Danny—his love of colours inspired the colourful confetti rainbow terrazzo range. We are passionate about crafting and enjoy the creative process. I want every person who joins one of our workshops to experience that same feeling—that moment when you step back, look at what you've created, and think, "I made that."
