Discover the art of eco-printing in this five-hour workshop near Clapham Junction, where you'll learn to press plant material onto fabric to create striking shapes and patterns. Whether you're completely new to eco-printing or an experienced hand looking to refresh your skills, this session is made for you.
Everything you need for the day is included in the price. Your fabric is pre-mordanted and ready to print, and you'll have wooden dowels, a selection of plant material, coloured threads and take-home instructions so you can keep experimenting once you've left.
To make the most of the day, please bring:
  • A water spray bottle for damping down the fabric
  • Strong, undyed cotton string
  • Scissors for cutting string
  • Wrapping materials, such as tin foil, cling film or scrap fabric
  • A large plastic bag, such as a black bin liner, to protect your table
  • A plastic bag to take your wet work home
  • An apron or a set of old clothes
  • Washing-up gloves or disposable gloves to protect your hands from heat and staining
If you'd like to go further, you're welcome to bring your own plant material, spent dye stuffs such as madder root or dried weld (wet or dry), or very thin copper or rusty wire to print with.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are served throughout the day, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available. There are plenty of food outlets close to the station if you fancy lunch out, or you're welcome to bring your own.
