Join this drypoint printmaking class in Clapton and discover the art of direct metal etching. Whether you're a practising artist or a hidden creative looking for a new way to express yourself, these tutoring sessions offer a focused and friendly environment to explore image making and printing by hand which you could explore together with a friend, a lover, a parent or a family member!
You'll work closely with Alice Valentina Biga to understand how to manipulate metal and paper to create striking results. There's no need to feel intimidated by the process; you'll have hands-on help every step of the way as you learn to navigate the etching press and master traditional techniques.
During this session, you will:
  • Carve your metal sheet – Use different tools to create line drawings and rich textures on an A5 plate.
  • Ink and wipe your plate – Learn the tactile process of preparing your design for the press.
  • Print your artwork – Experience the joy of using a professional etching press to transfer your image onto A4 paper.
Everything you need to get started is included, from the metal sheets and ink to high-quality printmaking paper and all necessary sundries.
This session offers a refreshing break from the everyday, giving you the chance to switch off and focus on a rewarding new skill. You'll leave the studio feeling inspired by your own capability, carrying home a collection of unique, handmade prints to show off.

Alice Valentina Biga trained as a printmaker at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, where she completed her BA in 2010. She studied for her MA at Camberwell College of Art in London in 2012.
Valentina practices and teaches printmaking in London. Her work has been describing her personal memories. Combining printmaking with photographs and drawings, her intention has been to create an intuitive connection with the heart of the image observer.
She has exhibited widely since 2012 in several independent shows and larger mixed exhibitions.
Highlights include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2017 and 2024, Bite Artists Making Prints and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
