What you'll do
If you're searching for creative things to do at home, take some time out to try something new and learn about Japanese carving with this fun craft box from Handcraffiti.
Japanese carving is a stunning art form that involves carving with a soft vinyl sheet and a chisel. Carvings created this way are uniquely beautiful, sharing the attractiveness of stained glass while being much easier to complete.
Don't worry if you've never tried hand carving before, as this craft kit is beginner-friendly and will help you find a sense of peace and calm as you learn a new skill and create a lovely piece of carved art to display!
Using an original London pattern sheet designed by your teacher, you'll create your stunning design by attaching a coloured film to the back of your carving and working over your engraving until a black outline remains.
Your friendly teacher will provide the tools, materials and step-by-step instructions to follow at your own pace — all you need is a flat surface to work from, and you can create a gorgeous carved masterpiece to treasure.
Please note:
- The approximate size of your finished carving will be 76mm x 76mm. The frame is approximately 110mm x 110mm.
- If you're not going to work on your craft kit as soon as it arrives, please put your engraving sheet in the plastic bag provided in your box to store it until you're ready to use it.
- When complete, please put your engraved sheet in a frame to preserve it. If your engraving is kept in close contact with other vinyl sheets for a long time, the paint may peel off. Direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided as this may cause the colours in your carving to fade.
