In this day - long workshop you will explore brush making techniques in more depth, looking at how each technique can alter the final shape for your brush. Create a brush that is designed to your style, and needs. Consider what you will use the brush for - indoor vs outdoor cleaning or purely decorative or ceremonial.
Spend the morning exploring different techniques, as well as the fibres you can use including traditional broom corn. Use your knowledge of the various techniques to sketch out a design and plan out a brush shape truly unique to you.
In the afternoon you will be supported by artist and craftsperson Lana to create your make your brush, troubleshooting and adapting along the way. In this class the size and style of brush you create is up to you! (time frame and materials depending).
This class is ideally for those that have had attended my beginners session [https://classbento.co.uk/natural-fibre-brush-making-workshop-london]. However if you are a total beginner and still want to come, you are still very welcome!
Smaller class sizes (between 4 and 8) allow for individual attention for each student meaning you can feel supported in stretching your creative and technical skills.
There will be a lunch break and tea break scheduled into the day.
This workshop will be held at Deen City Farm!
Which means you will have access to the farm during your breaks:
  • Explore our garden, including our natural dye plant bed, made in collaboration with Merton Abbey Mills artists and gardeners.
  • Have a wander around our farmyard and fields, seeing chickens, ducks, horses, rabbits, ferrets, cows, sheep, goats and more....

I’m a London-based artist, maker and designer, working from my studio in Earlsfield, South West London.
I make my own tools as part of my practice, and I believe there’s a real sense of empowerment in realising you can create the tools you need with your own hands.
I’m a self-taught brush maker, and I love sharing the joy of this tactile and rewarding craft with others. In my workshops, you’ll learn how to create your own handmade brush using traditional techniques and natural materials such as broom corn, arenga and hemp—no prior experience needed.
These brushes are both practical and expressive—perfect as beautiful, eco-friendly hand brooms, or for expressive mark making (my personal favourite).
I’ve led workshops across a wide range of creative disciplines, working with people of all ages and abilities, and I aim to create a welcoming, relaxed space where everyone can enjoy the process of making.
