Darning is making a comeback, and it's easier (and more satisfying) than you might think. In this relaxed, hands-on darning workshop in London led by Mads Do & Mend CIC, you'll learn how to darn so you can repair your favourite woollens and keep them in use for longer. Over two hours, you'll slow down, focus and enjoy making alongside others in a calm, safe and supportive space.
Mending is about far more than clothes. It's about care, connection and building stronger communities. As a social enterprise, Mads Do & Mend uses income from its paid workshops to run free mending groups for people facing financial hardship, isolation or mental health difficulties, creating welcoming spaces where everyone can learn, connect and feel less alone.
Madeline Tanoto will guide you step by step through different darning techniques, and you'll explore the tools and materials you need to keep darning at home. All darning materials and equipment are provided.
Bring along a woollen item to mend, such as a knitted jumper, cardigan or pair of socks with holes. If you don't have one to hand, you can practise on a swatch provided during the session.
Come along to mend, meet like-minded people and leave with skills you'll use for life.
