Join artist Lizzie Cardozo for a fascinating cyanotype workshop at The Civic Action Lab and learn how to create your own beautiful blue prints. This is a unique opportunity to explore one of the earliest forms of photography in a supportive and creative activity. Absolutely no experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm!
You will learn all about the magical cyanotype process, a camera-less printing technique where UV-sensitive paper is exposed to light to create striking blue and white images. This workshop focuses on archiving the seasons, using a wonderful collection of pressed leaves, flowers, and plants to create your designs. It’s a fantastic chance to explore and nurture your connection with nature through art making.
In this hands-on session, you will get to:
  • Learn about the history of the cyanotype process, composition, and photography.
  • Experiment with exposing times and double exposures to create different effects.
  • Use a variety of natural foliage provided by Lizzie to create your motifs.
  • Make and take away three of your own prints on high-quality watercolour paper.
This workshop is open to all ages, though children must be over eight years old. Please get in touch with any queries, as accommodations can be made.
For your comfort and safety, please note:
  • The chemicals used can stain clothing, so it's a good idea to wear something you don't mind getting messy.
  • UV lamps will be used during the workshop.
  • It is advised to wash your hands if any chemicals come into contact with your skin.
  • Some prints may still be drying at the end and will need to continue drying at home – their beautiful blue colour will deepen over the next 24 hours.
This enriching experience will give you a new set of skills and a deeper appreciation for this historic art form, leaving you with three beautiful, personal prints to cherish.
What you'll get
3 Cyanotype prints.
