What you'll do

Searching for new things to make at home? In this fantastic little workshop, expert teacher Sallieann will demonstrate the basics of creating a cotton rope basket from scratch!

From starting the coil and creating the shape to finishing the basket, you'll watch demonstrations and sew along at every stage of the creative process. Your teacher will provide plenty of tips and tricks along with comprehensive 12-page workshop notes and access to a workshop recording after the class.

In this workshop, you'll cover:

Sourcing and selecting rope, needles, threads and fabric that lend themselves well to the production process.
Dealing with a sewing machine set up, stitch size, foot choice, throat plates and clearance issues.
Basket hardware: screws, rivets and leather tabs.
Brief discussion around creating bags and handles in rope (other samples shared)
Dyeing rope and variegated thread.
Wrapping rope with fabric.

Sallieann Harrison

Sallieann Harrison is a popular designer and regular presenter of patchwork and quilting for TV’s Sewing Street. Her passion for sewing led her into the world of American patchwork and quilting in early 2000 whilst living in the USA. Since then, Sallieann has gone on to complete an honours degree in education and has been teaching and working in the education sector both as a patchwork tutor and as an education compliance officer for Ofsted.

Her love of sewing and depth of knowledge has led her to both exhibit and demonstrate at the Houston International Show and teach residential courses for the Women’s Institute College Denman. Her inspiring fun sewing creations (that are not always limited to quilts) can often be found in popular sewing magazines.
