Connect with experienced textile artist Pat Archibald, who'll help you learn a variety of mixed media and stitching techniques in a warm and welcoming virtual space. Pat will demonstrate techniques used to build up layers of subtle glitz and texture on your piece as you begin to create a unique, eye-catching design.

You'll discover plenty of tips and tricks as you experiment with other embellishment ideas before finishing off by adding a neat machine-stitched beaded edging to your key fob or postcard!

What you'll get in your craft kit

A fabric kit will be sent to you containing everything that you need apart from threads, buttons, and tools.

What you'll need

Two small buttons.
Hand embroidery needles. Choose a size to suit the beads.
Scissors.
Rotary cutter.
Mat.
Ruler.
Sewing machine – this will be used to stitch a lovely edge to your work. You may prefer to watch and then do this later in your own time. The machine needs to be set up with the same cotton thread on the top and in the bobbin and fitted with your zig-zag foot or over-cast foot if you have one. (Your choice of thread colours)

Pat Archibald

Pat is a UK textile artist and tutor based in Edinburgh. Her fascination for fabric began in her childhood when she discovered her grandmother’s scrap bag bursting at the seams with exotic fabrics and by the age of 11, she had created her first piece of patchwork. Throughout her creative career, Pat has exhibited her work worldwide, won some wonderful awards and even established Scotland’s first dedicated patchwork and quilting shop.

Pat loves to travel both around her home country as well as further afield. As her own horizons grow literally, then so too do the experiences that she can then express in her quilt making. She feels that each collection of quilts has its own unique identity and captures the essence of her view of the country or city.
