What you'll do
In this class, you will learn how to use advanced vitreous enamelling techniques and cloisonné wires to create a unique, colourful silver pendant.

What will I make?
You will make a sterling silver cloisonné enamel pendant.
What will happen on the day?
In this class, you will learn how to use advanced vitreous enamelling techniques to create a unique, colourful silver pendant.
You will be guided through making a silver cloisonné vitreous enamel pendant using a sterling silver 30mm x 20mm oval shape that has been prepared for your use. Cloisonné is a technique that is effective for a wide variety of designs ranging from simple to intricate, and you may want to work on the design prior to the class.
You will be introduced to a range of methods and techniques to overcome the challenge of translating your design from paper to metal. Beginners will be able to make something simple, whilst those with more experience can develop their skills.
You will learn how to form the wires for your chosen design and transfer them to the metal. Layers of enamel will be added, and you will learn how to graduate and blend the colours into one another.
Having created your piece, you will then be guided through finishing, learning how to grind the surface flat and achieve a smooth polished enamel surface.
You will finish with a piece that is unique to you, and a greater understanding of enamelling techniques that you can take forward into further projects. You are also welcome to bring any pieces you have started at home for advice, and to work on alongside this project.
Who is my instructor?
Linda Connelly is an award-winning enamel artist and jeweller who has been making enamelled jewellery for over thirty years from her studio in Surrey. She is an experienced tutor who spent nearly twenty years teaching enamelling and jewellery making in adult education, most recently teaching her own private classes up until the pandemic.

Knowledge required
No previous experience is needed, just a steady hand and a little patience. Don't worry if you feel you're not artistic or creative, as you will be taken through the whole process step by step.
What you'll get
You will be provided with all materials needed to make this enamel pendant, using a limited number of enamel colours. Chain is not included.
What to bring
- Reading glasses (if you need them!)
- Pair of fine-nosed scissors
- Hairband in case you'd like to tie your hair back
- Apron if you wish to protect your clothing
- Notebook / paper and pencils
- Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose-fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught while you are working.
- Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open-toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!
- Hair: Tie long hair back.
