This is a wonderful activity to unwind and get creative. You'll get to choose your own palette from a wide selection of over 45 yarn colours and plan a simple design to bring to life.
With dedicated one-on-one guidance, you will learn how to:
  • Use a punch needle with confidence and control

  • 5/5 from Tanhida Jalil, attended Jun 2026: Gokcen facilitated a private event for 11 people. She was an amazing teacher, very patient and enthusiastic. She arrived early to set up and was very organised with the materials. She was also very helpful before the event and helped us design a bespoke embroidery pattern to be completed on the day.
  • 5/5 from Charlotte Robinson, attended May 2026: Loved our class! Teacher was very helpful and informative, knew her stuff and was overall very inspiring with all her achievements! She went above and beyond to help me get the design I wanted and was very patient with me - thank you so much! We were also joined by her lovely friendly doggy which was a bonus! Thank you so much and hope to come again for another craft to learn!
  • 5/5 from Akhil Patel, attended Apr 2026: We had the most amazing time punch needling. I bought the experience as a birthday present for my partner. Gok was very helpful and responsive via email in refining our designs and offering suggestions. She noted that our designs were quite complex and offereed us larger hoops and extra time to complete it if needed. The studio is very cute and we ended up having a lovely time listening to music and chatting away with Gok. She is super knowledgeable and an amazing teacher. We were so sucked into punch needling and loved every minute. She helped my partner sketch her design and filled in some of our designs when we were tired. We ended up spending 4 hours in the studio and completed really wonderful designs that we can't wait to hang up in our house. We also got a lovely Polaroid to remember the experience. 1000% recommend this to anyone looking for a fun crafty activity. Thank you Gok!!!

Gokcen is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and she’s created a cosy studio filled with warmth and positive energy. It was the perfect mix of creativity, calm, and connection. I left feeling inspired and refreshed, I can’t wait to go back and try another session!

Hello! I'm Gökçen Ataman Tanyer, a sculptor originally from Istanbul. In 2020, I was honoured to receive the Sustainable Art Prize, which led to my endorsement as a Global Talent in Fine Arts. Three years ago, I moved to the UK with my family and our senior rescue golden retriever, Pamuk. I've always loved this country and am delighted to now call it home.
I recently opened my studio, The Messy Table, a cosy creative space at Portland Road Studios in the heart of Kingston upon Thames, just around the corner from Kingston Art School.
The Messy Table is all about bringing people together through creativity. I offer a range of hands-on workshops, including tufting, punch needle, polymer clay jewellery, painting, epoxy art, and other seasonal creative experiences.
Looking for something special? I also host bespoke private events for hen parties, birthdays, baby showers, team-building days, family gatherings, and other celebrations. Workshops can be tailored to suit your group, whether you'd like to make jewellery, create artwork, or try another creative activity together.
I can host groups of up to 8 people in my studio or travel to your chosen venue for larger groups. If you have a custom idea in mind, just send me a message and I'd be happy to create a workshop especially for you.
My studio is still very new, so in many ways I feel like I'm learning alongside my participants. Every workshop is relaxed, welcoming, and filled with creativity, conversation, tea, coffee, and sometimes a visit from Pamuk, my 12-year-old rescue golden retriever, who loves being part of the creative atmosphere.
I'd love to welcome you to The Messy Table and help you create a memorable experience while making something beautiful by hand.
