Ever been drawn to the beauty of Chinese characters, ink paintings or traditional Chinese culture? Join Iris for a year-long journey into Chinese calligraphy, discovering how brush, ink and movement come together in expressive, meaningful artworks.
You'll explore Chinese regular script, inspired by the disciplined elegance of Ouyang Xun, one of the most influential calligraphers in Chinese history. Through guided practice, demonstrations and personalised feedback, you'll learn how individual brushstrokes build balance, rhythm and harmony within each character – no previous experience required, whether you're completely new to calligraphy or simply curious about Chinese culture.
Through monthly in-person classes, you'll cover brush techniques and essential strokes, the structure and balance of characters, and the rhythm and beauty of regular script, completing a finished calligraphy artwork in every class to take home, display or gift.
The course includes:
  • 10 in-person Chinese calligraphy classes
  • A final student exhibition celebrating everyone's progress
  • A finished calligraphy piece from each class
  • Take-home practice copy sheets
  • Ongoing online guidance and feedback between classes
Chinese calligraphy isn't about writing quickly or perfectly – it's an invitation to slow down, observe closely, and discover the beauty that comes through patient practice. As brush, ink and movement come together, many find a quiet, meditative rhythm, making this as much a gentle space for inner exploration as it is a traditional art form to learn.
About your teacher: born and raised in Taiwan, Iris began learning Chinese calligraphy at nine, training under experienced calligraphers alongside her art education before working alongside artists and calligraphers to deepen her craft. She later moved to London to study Art Management and has been based there since 2019, now sharing traditional Chinese calligraphy with students from all backgrounds.
