Chinese Brush Painting Workshop

In this painting class, you will delve into the enchanting world of Chinese Brush Painting under the guidance of experienced tutor Angela Reich. You'll learn how to depict snow in Chinese paintings by creating a serene winter landscape with delicate bamboo and a robin to take home.No previous art experience is needed, so there's no need to worry if you're new to this art form. Angela Reich will provide all the materials and equipment necessary for the workshop, including Chinese ink. Please bear in mind that Chinese ink can be very black and stain, so dress appropriately for the occasion.Throughout the class, Angela will introduce you to the freehand and meticulous styles of Chinese Brush Painting, offering tips and guidance to help you master this unique art form. You'll explore simple and spontaneous brushstrokes to bring your paintings to life in a beautiful and expressive way and attempt some Chinese calligraphy.By the end of the workshop, you'll have not only learned new techniques in Chinese Brush Painting but also created your own masterpiece to cherish. I paint in both the freehand and meticulous styles, and also practise Chinese calligraphy. The freehand style is simple and spontaneous, using only a few brush strokes to evoke the subject, or the season. The meticulous court style is elegant and realistic, using subtle washes.I have studied Chinese Brush Painting (CBP) for over 30 years, learning from many Chinese artists in the UK and in China, visiting China several times to sketch the landscape and flowers.I love sharing my enthusiasm for this unique art form. I teach individuals and groups at my home studio in Surrey and also give workshops to various CBP groups.I am Chair of the Chinese Brush Painting Society, the UK national network for this fascinating art.
