In this immersive pottery painting workshop in West London, you'll learn the intricate art of Iznik Cini Painting, specifically focusing on the BabanakkaÅŸ pattern. You'll create your own beautifully painted ceramic coffee cup and saucer, perfect for celebrating International Coffee Day or enjoying your daily espresso in style.
Don't worry if you've never tried ceramic painting before - this class is designed for everyone from aspiring artists to curious beginners. Under the expert guidance of renowned artist Nagihan Seymour, you'll discover the rich history and techniques of traditional İznik ceramics, deeply rooted in Ottoman culture.
During this face-to-face session, you'll:
  • Learn about the historical significance of Iznik pottery
  • Explore the BabanakkaÅŸ style, named after the head artist of the 15th/16th century Ottoman Palace
  • Discover the symbolic meanings behind fig leaves, mushroom motifs, and lily flowers in this art form
  • Master painting techniques using authentic materials
By the end of the workshop, you'll have painted your own Turkish coffee cup and saucer. Your creation will then be glazed and fired in a kiln, resulting in a professional-quality piece you can use and cherish. This enlightening experience not only teaches you a new skill but also provides a tangible connection to Ottoman cultural heritage.
The course follows the traditional teaching methods used in Istanbul for hundreds of years, offering an authentic learning experience. All materials will be provided by the Yunus Emre Institute London, where you'll be able to collect your finished work once it's ready.
