Melanin Minds was founded by Alexandra during the peak of the Global Pandemic after being made redundant following a term of Furlough as an Event Manager.

Alexandra has always been a candle connoisseur and collected unique candles from all over the world! She received them as gifts or purchased a candle from shops or markets but always noticed that the smell didn’t quite fill the room or have a strong and long-lasting fragrance.

Initially, in 2015 Melanin Minds was solely meant to raise mental health awareness for the melanin community. Alexandra wanted to start a charity with funded help and resources for those that need support, like herself. Yet, Alexandra hasn’t strayed away from helping people that are struggling mentally while promoting her Caribbean inspired candles.

Alexandra wanted to bring positive memories when lighting the tropical candle in your home, reminding you of that special Caribbean holiday. She has projected her family background as well as her unique and colourful personality into the design and face of the company, also the fact that she is a lover of RUM!

In October 2020, Alexandra launched the first signature Caribbean collection that consisted of 10 scents paying homage to Black Culture. Hummingbird, Crop Over and best seller Zouk Ti Punch plus many more all resonate with life in the Caribbean culture and promoting self-care to add to your routine, making you feel like you in an exotic island!!!

Alexandra’s goal was to create the link between scent therapy and mental health. Beautiful, curated gift boxes that promote self-care while maintaining a luxurious and sustainable brand. She has many well-being and mindfulness plans to expand the business and assisting with finding a professional to heal your mind.

Melanin Minds candles, wax snaps and reed diffusers are hand-poured using 100% soy coconut wax, lead free wicks and non-toxic diffuser base. Our packaging is biodegradable, recyclable and re-usable; the packing peanuts are made from a biodegradable starch that dissolves in water. The large vessel can also be easily re-used in every room in your home, for example – make-up brushes, pens, keys and more! We encourage customers to simply wash out your jar and 'Voilà!'

Alexandra noticed that there was a gap in the market for tropical premium candles with affordable prices. These candles and beautiful self-care gift boxes makes the perfect present for any occasion or as a self-love treat to yourself and will leave your home smelling exotic. She loves to burn Zouk Ti Punch when working, meditating, cooking and in the evening when watching her favourite shows.

The aroma emitted from a scented candle stimulates the part of your brain which is connected to memory and mood, uplifting and boosting your aura. Melanin Minds most famous scent is Zouk Ti Punch – Rum Punch and customers are always attracted by the name but always amazed once they smell and compare to the actual cocktail!

Melanin Minds now has a subtle home collection, wax snaps, mini candles that customers can travel with and take their loved scent with them wherever they go.

Alexandra has her thriving business set up in her living room in Bedfordshire, where all products are hand-poured in small batches and made with love.
