Join me for a relaxed and creative two-hour workshop, where you’ll learn to hand-build and decorate your very own sgraffito plate. This is an adults-only pottery workshop, perfect for complete beginners.
Sgraffito is a decorative pottery technique where layers of coloured slip are applied to leather-hard clay, then carefully scratched away to reveal the clay body underneath. Using carving tools, you can create patterns, illustrations, and textures with beautiful contrast and detail. In this workshop, we’ll explore simple carving techniques to decorate your own unique ceramic plate.
After the workshop, your plate will stay at the studio to be carefully dried, glazed, and twice-fired, making it food-safe and durable for everyday use. Finished plates will be ready to collect 4–5 weeks later or can be posted for an additional cost.
Come along for a cosy evening with friends, or join solo and meet like-minded people in a welcoming atmosphere. By the end, you’ll have crafted a beautiful, functional piece of pottery to treasure.
What you'll get
A fired and glazed functional plate.

Hi, I’m Sophie a ceramic artist and teacher with a degree in Design Crafts. My journey with clay began at university, where I fell in love with the immediacy and tactility of the material. What started as a creative exploration quickly grew into a lifelong passion for making and sharing the joy of pottery with others.
I’ve been teaching pottery workshops for the past two years, focusing on hand-building techniques that allow creativity and individuality to shine. I love showing students how to shape, texture, and form clay using just their hands and a few simple tools - no two pieces are ever the same. Watching people slow down, connect with the material, and discover their own creative rhythm is one of the best parts of what I do.
My work has been featured in Prima Magazine, and I was proud to be a potter on The Great Pottery Throw Down, Season 7. Through my classes, I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging space where creativity and confidence can flourish - and everyone leaves with something handmade and uniquely their own.
