Create your very own Turkish mosaic lantern in this hands-on workshop at Assembly House in Armley, Leeds, hand-placing glass mosaic pieces and beads to bring your design to life. You'll choose every colour and pattern yourself, so no two lanterns ever turn out the same.
You'll be guided step-by-step through a centuries-old technique, with all materials provided – ideal if this is your first time trying it. As you work, settle in with a drink and a taste of Turkish delight in a relaxed, sociable setting. No experience or artistic skill is needed, just come ready to have a go and enjoy the process.
By the end of the session, you'll walk away with a one-of-a-kind piece made entirely by your own hands – and hopefully a lovely couple of hours away from the everyday too.
What you'll get
  • Your own handmade Turkish mosaic lantern is ready to take home and use.
  • All materials, tools, and guidance are included, plus a drink and Turkish delight while you create.

FAQ

Do I need any experience?
None at all — this is beginner-friendly, and you'll be guided through every step of the process.
Is there an age minimum?
Recommended for ages 14+ due to small glass pieces and adhesive being used.
Can I take my lantern home the same day?
You'll finish and take home your lantern on the day, though the glue needs time to fully cure — full instructions will be given at the end of the session.
See more FAQs
What should I wear?
Nothing special needed, though an apron or old clothing is recommended in case of any glue or bead spillage.
Can I come alone, or is it better with friends?
Both work brilliantly! Solo makers often enjoy the relaxed, focused pace, while it's also a lovely activity for date nights, girls' nights, or hen parties.
Will I definitely finish my lantern in the session?
Yes — the session length is designed so everyone completes their piece, working at a comfortable pace with full guidance throughout.
Is there parking available?
There are some spaces available at the café opposite the venue.
Are there refreshments available beyond what's included?
Yes — while tea and Turkish delight are included in your session, further drinks and refreshments can be purchased at the bar.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately, Assembly House is located on the first floor with no wheelchair access. Please get in touch before booking if you have any accessibility questions or needs.

Hi, I'm Nabila — the maker behind Tuft 'n' Tile, a creative craft studio bringing hands-on workshops to West Yorkshire.
I've always been drawn to craft — even though I genuinely cannot draw to save my life! But that's exactly why I believe crafting is for everyone. You don't need to be "artistic" to create something beautiful with your hands; you just need someone to show you how.
I've been a lecturer for 20 years, and I've always found ways to bring craft into my teaching. There's nothing quite like watching a student with zero self-belief look at their finished piece and feel real pride — that moment is what I love most, and it's exactly what I want people to feel at a Tuft 'n' Tile workshop too.
For me, craft is also about switching off. There's something genuinely restorative about focusing your hands and your eyes on colour and pattern, and letting your mind step out of the here and now for a while.
Tuft 'n' Tile is a pop-up studio, so I bring the experience to different venues across West Yorkshire rather than one fixed base — our first sessions are at Assembly House in Armley, Leeds, where you can enjoy a drink while hand-placing genuine Turkish glass and beads to create your own one-of-a-kind mosaic lantern.
At tuft 'n' Tile, I currently teach Turkish mosaic lantern-making, with tufting (rug making) and Zellige tile workshops joining the studio soon.
Come make something beautiful, switch off for a couple of hours, and leave with a piece that's completely your own.
