We had a small group of four (myself included) and learnt the basics so I am very confident in progressing at home. I would highly recommend.

  • 5/5 from Jenny Bonner, attended Jan 2026: I went to the Havant store, on the beginners crochet course, and after many many past failed attempts, Trying to learn from books, videos and friends, I actually came away able to crochet! I was so excited to actually be able to do it, Fiona was so patient, (Trust me, she needed to be.) I came away with my crochet, which was chain, double and treble stitches, the hook I’d been given to use, an printed crochet guide and 2 balls of wool, with a bag to keep it in. I was really really pleased with the end result and after initially thinking it was exspensive I realised what good value for money it was, after all I have now learned a lifelong skill.
  • 5/5 from Mia Zillwood Hunt, attended Jan 2026: The instructor was absolutely amazing! We ended up having a 1-1 session and I came out feeling so confident about crochet! She taught me the basic stitches and because I caught on so well (thanks to her amazing teaching) she taught me how to do a magic circle and start a granny square! I’ve since bought a bunch of wool and have been crocheting away! Highly recommend. 10/10
  • 5/5 from Lois Brown, attended Jan 2026: Fiona brilliant. She obviously new her stuff and was a great teacher. I would highly recommend the class. It was really enjoyable and taught the basics which was what I needed.

There was 3 of us learning and we all had a great time and a great example of completed work we did in the lesson. Highly recommend taking this class as a beginner or as a refresher.
  • 5/5 from Dianne Tonks, attended Oct 2025: Fiona was very patient and guided me gently into the world of crochet. I was delighted to have created a small piece of crochet and plan to make a baby blanket now.
  • 5/5 from Claire Kimber, attended Sep 2025: Fortunately there were only two of us, which made a big difference. Previous reviews said: the bigger the group, the harder it was to learn. It was a very good learning session. She was very patient and adaptable when I struggled with certain elements of the process. Thank you for a good experience.
  • 5/5 from Sheila Hung, attended Jul 2025: Fiona was great, very patient and helpful to my 8 y/o daughter's first crochet experience!
  • 5/5 from Tori O'Toole, attended Jun 2025: Great class. Fiona was very patient with us, lots of tips and gentle to learn from. Would definitely book the next one when more comfortable with the work. Only suggestion was to make the class slightly longer. Only three booked in which helped but with different speeds to pick up skills, we almost ran out of time to learn the second type of stitch.
  • 5/5 from Hayley Bartlett, attended Apr 2025: The teacher was very knowledgeable and patient. I enjoyed the beginners crochet class.

  • 5/5 from Jane Cherrington, attended Mar 2025: Really enjoyed the small group setting for my cricket class. After having only dabbled with crochet, it was really useful to sit down with an expert and be guided. Thank you. I will be back.
  • 5/5 from Kate Rosser, attended Mar 2025: Loved the hour 1/2 spent learning a new skill. It was very relaxed and the teacher was very patient. The class was small only 3 attendees which meant we all had plenty of one to one tuition (which I needed!) I will definately be doing more of this type of class.

  • 5/5 from Lesley Wilson, attended Jan 2025: My friend and I attended this course together and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tutor, Fiona, was lovely, she was informative, patient and her demonstrations were clear and concise. Thank you

  • 5/5 from Natasha Potter, attended Sep 2024: Our tutor was so lovely and patient! I have never done crochet before and was a little nervous, it was nice to have her on hand to help you if you lost your way. The handout sheet was really useful and I’m looking forward to giving it a go at home.
  • 5/5 from Kelly, attended Aug 2024: Attended the beginners crochet class at Havant. Fiona is a very good teacher, was very patient and helpful with my 8 year old niece. We kept the wool and crochet hook we were using so we can carry on practicing at home.
  • 5/5 from Jodie Bartholomew Oates, attended Dec 2023: Alix was fab! Patient, friendly, approachable, and great with my autistic children as well as me, all three of us could basically cricket when we left and have practised almost constantly since, my daughter even took hers to her birthday meal as you can see in the photos! Alix is hoping to start booking short courses of 3 or 4 sessions to learn more & we would love that! Having continuity of same tutor v important to us re autism and anxiety, pls consider her idea. Loved our little kit to take home. Only thing is other customers kept asking Alix for help, would be nice to have a little sign on the table saying lesson in progress and to pls find another member of staff to help. This experience for my daughters birthday Def encouraged us to book again. Alix is an asset.
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth, attended Nov 2023: The teacher was knowledgeable and taught crochet to beginners in a clear manner. I was happy with the materials provided and the venue was ideal for this workshop. I enjoyed learning in a small relaxed group face to face.

  • 5/5 from Cindy Nicolychuk, attended Oct 2023: Aliix was so lovely. She was calm and knowledgeable and patient with all of us beginners. I would definitely come back for another class as I learnt a lot from today with Aliix. I cannot say enough about how lovely she was.
  • 5/5 from Julie Middleton, attended Aug 2023: Teacher was very patient Havant Hobbycraft excellent shop. Materials etc provided very good for the price. It was fun
  • 4/5 from Louise Thompson, attended Aug 2023: Teacher was very good, friendly, and gave clear concise instructions. The venue was fine, light and bright, with plenty of space. Pleasantly surprised with the haberdashery we were given, all included in the price of the lesson. Never known 1.5 hours to pass so quickly. Now to practise.
  • 5/5 from Sandra Roe-Johns, attended Jul 2023: Aliix was a fantastic teacher. Very patient, knowledgeable and encouraging. The time flew by and I felt I learnt some basics. Would absolutely recommend crochet for beginners
  • 5/5 from Karen Newland, attended Jul 2023: It was a good basics course to get started on crochet in a relaxed and friendly setting.
  • 5/5 from Dawn Smith, attended Jun 2023: The teacher was patient and knowledgeable about her craft. The materials supplied were of good quality and useful to continue with practicing at home. It would be useful if there could be a follow on class or even a small course available to continue to build on what we have learned.
  • 5/5 from Jo McEwen, attended Jun 2023: Great teacher, very clear explanations and advice. She was able to give both general instruction and individual attention which beat watching a video or following a book hands down. 5 learners was just the right number. Good value for money for what I learned.
  • 4/5 from Anna Sullivan, attended Jun 2023: I attended the beginners guide to crochet, the teacher was very patient and friendly. All your materials are provided and I learnt loads more than I did from watching YouTube videos or reading crochet books/magazines. The small class size meant that everyone got enough attention and time to ask questions. The only reason it's a four star rating and not a five is because there is currently no option for follow on lessons to learn different stitches or gain more confidence which is very disappointing.
  • 5/5 from Lucy Schofield, attended May 2023: The teacher was really friendly and helpful. The venue was easy to get to with plenty of parking. I really liked the craft box I received for my class, it was presented really nicely. I feel it was good value for money
  • 5/5 from Shelley Rengger, attended Feb 2023: Really great session. Struggled to get to grips with it at first but the teacher was very patient and I soon got the hang of it. Would be good to have a follow up course in a couple of weeks to learn the next stiches and progress further.
  • 4/5 from Kate McGrath, attended Feb 2023: I’m in my 50s and have never mastered knitting or crochet, and I never thought I would. The tutor was excellent, sharing herself between four but giving us all the attention and help we needed. I was thrilled that I managed nearly a square, but where to go next? Hobbycraft you need a stage 2 workshop please.
  • 5/5 from Jacqueline Cole, attended Jan 2023: Alex was brilliant you love to learn.ore about crochet. Hobby craft should do a block of lessons to enable us to learn more.
  • 5/5 from Tiffany Swatton, attended Jan 2023: The teacher was very knowledgeable and willing to help in every way they could, they made it easy to understand also
