Unwind with this satisfying textile art class guided by a talented teacher from Ragged Life. Pick up an impressive new skill and learn how to transform old clothes into a sustainable piece of DIY home decor.
Over three hours, you'll cover some rag rugging basics with loads of tips and tricks from your teacher. Dip your toe into the world of rag rugging and fall in love with the tactile design and relaxing process. You'll be learning in a laidback environment with all the materials you need and plenty of tea and biscuits too.
Although everything you need is provided, you are also welcome to bring any old clothes or fabric you have. The charm of rag rugging is the memories attached to old clothes, so bring anything sentimental you'd like to incorporate.
You will learn how to use rag rugging equipment, how to select and prepare materials and two types of ruggings (loopy and shaggy). You'll put this knowledge into practice by starting a small project in the class, usually, a sunflower cushion.
On the hunt for fun things to do for your team-building activity or hen party? Rag rugging is a unique way to get everyone together doing something social and eco-friendly.

Show map   Hi, I’m Elspeth, avid crafter and professional rag rugger (now that’s something I never thought I would say!). When I was 14 I was asked to make a costume for my school’s recycled fashion show. I’d grown up with my mum’s rag rugs all over the house and thought it would make the perfect medium for my outfit. Hours and hours and t-shirts and t-shirts later, I finished my costume. I won second prize for my efforts but decided that rag rug clothing wasn’t exactly the easiest place to start… a rug would do for my next project. That’s where my story began and I’ve been rag rugging ever since.
I founded my company “Ragged Life” in 2014 after noticing that more and more people were looking to get into rag rugging. I started out running workshops at weekends and in the evenings in London and Hertfordshire but as demand picked up I left my old job to rag rug full time. I’m now a published author, have appeared on national TV and am a regular in craft magazines.
I love spreading rag rug cheer by running workshops across the country as well as selling rag rug starter kits and making handmade commissions.
