Indian Tandoori Cooking Masterclass

Learn how to cook jaw-dropping tandoori dishes that will wow your taste buds every time.

3 hours Location Birmingham Class size 1 to 3 guests   £99

Learn to recreate the smoky, charred flavours of tandoor cooking right in your home kitchen. You'll master the techniques and marinades that make tandoori dishes sing – from succulent Tandoori Chicken and Paneer Tikka to aromatic Seekh Kebabs and fluffy Garlic Naans – discovering how to achieve restaurant-quality results without needing a clay oven. These are dishes that taste spectacular, and by the end of the class, you'll know exactly how to bring them to life at home.
This is a hands-on cooking experience where you'll work through the recipes step-by-step, learning the marinade foundations, the cooking techniques, and the timing that makes tandoori food so good. You'll taste as you go – there's nothing like eating something you've just made – and leave with the confidence that you can recreate these dishes whenever you want. Whether you've cooked Indian food before or this is your first time, you'll be guided through every stage, building real skills and understanding as you work.
We provide everything: all the ingredients, aprons, and instruction. You'll also take home a detailed recipe pack so you can continue cooking these dishes long after the class. By the end, you'll have not just enjoyed a delicious meal, but gained the knowledge and confidence to cook tandoori food in your own kitchen.
Please note: no previous cooking experience needed. All ingredients, aprons, and detailed recipes are included.

  • 5/5 from Caron, attended Sep 2023: What a fabulous afternoon cooking and eating our tandoori creations. With clear guidance from Monica, loads of tips and fun discussions with the small group we learnt about the traditional cooking methods and how to adapt these techniques in our own home. Monica kindly adapted the recipes for my veggi and lactose intolerance so that I could fully enjoy the masterclass and we had plenty of space in the modern kitchen to cook and adapt the flavours of our own meals. We arranged our trip from Spain to the UK around the class and we will definitely attend another cookery event whenever possible, until then we are practicing and improving at home. Hubbi John is definitely winning the nan cooking competition at home. See you again as soon as possible xx
  • 5/5 from Selina Batchelor, attended Aug 2023: Such a great experience and I learned so much. Monica was an excellent teacher, explaining in detail and inviting questions. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to improve their knowledge and cooking skills
  • 5/5 from Peter Maher, attended Aug 2023: Really enjoyable time. The class was very well organised , hands on and a lot of fun. Tandoori Paneer masala and Naan bread were my favourites.
  • 5/5 from Dave Schilling, attended Aug 2023: It just gets better, this was my second masterclass with Monica and I know all of the group could not wait to eat the delights we all made. Once you taste the tandoori paneer masala, any meat eater could become a vegetarian with the explosion of taste this dish offers. The tava naans, were incredible and Monica's insightful way of making these was as good as they tasted and that was divine. What can I say about the Mooli Kachumber, the perfect accompaniment for the dishes prepared. The lamb kebabs were like no other, being able to replicate these in your own home is a game changer. I can only highly recommend to any curry lover out there to get involved, I'm already looking forward to September's Mumbai Street food class, because if the 2 cookery classes I've done are anything to go by, this also promises to exceed all expectations, thanks again Monica for being such a fantastic teacher!
  • 5/5 from Chloe Barratt, attended Aug 2023: I was honestly so overwhelmed by the whole experience. Being my first time and given to me as a gift it wasnt something I would usually do on my own or choose to do myself at all, from start to finish Monica was a sensational host, totally personable and really easy to listen too. The way that Monica engaged with our group was great as well as informing us in an easy to digest way she also kept us entertained and laughing whilst showing an interest into all of us as individuals and encouraging the group to socialise too. Pulling from personal experiences and showing us real authentic techniques and tips made the entire experience so enjoyable and took my fear away from from scratch home cooked tabdoori food, the skill and experience was oozing from our host. The dinner at the end is a nice touch and I really got to know my fellow group members on a personal level whilst we all exchanged stories and enjoyed beautiful food we had help prepare. Just over all I really fantastic experience, I came out totally overwhelmed and had to take a second in the car to appreciate just how fantastic experience it was. Cant wait to come back, great job !!

  • 5/5 from Christine Gilbert, attended Apr 2022: Wow what a fantastic cookery class. Monica was the most wonderful teacher and host. The venue was outstanding and the total experience was absolutely fabulous. Lots of hints and tips, everyone was involved in the preparation and cooking. 2 highlights were making the naan bread and then having lunch together and eating the food we had been making. Faultless.

Hi! I'm Monica, the founder of The Spice Club, An Indian cookery school with an ethos to showcase regional, homestyle Indian food!
Cooking is my passion and my inspiration is my Mum. She has brought the tastes of Jaipur to our kitchen at home, having learnt generations of recipes from my incredible Naniji (grandma!). Her culinary enthusiasm remains child-like and infectious. She is always looking to expand her repertoire and put her unique twist on old classics, but the heart of her dishes remain true to the basics – home cooked and from the soul. She tells me that I started as her sous-chef from age 3, and I haven’t looked back.
I sharpened my skills whilst fending for myself at University, where I majored in Hospitality Management with a specialisation in Restaurant and Food Service Management. I’ve worked in various “flavours” of restaurants in both North America and the UK — from fast-food franchises to exclusive fine-dining establishments which have given me a broad base of experience and fuelled my desire to follow my passion.
Through our cookery school, we aim to showcase what homemade Indian food is all about — fresh ingredients, homemade spice blends and family recipes cooked and seasoned with a generous portion of love and history.
