Raku Firing Pottery Workshop

Join us at Lemon Studio for an amazing outdoor Raku firing pottery workshop.

3 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £85

Looking to explore your love of pottery making in Manchester? During the session, you will be given an introduction to Raku firing and invited to surface decorate 2-3 pots using a variety of methods to experience a range of results. You will be glazing and firing pottery from a selection of pre-made items.
Raku firing is the term given to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese Raku firing. Western-style Raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials such as straw, leaves, etc. This is a very exciting pottery process that gives fast results and amazing effects.
Your work will be ready to take home from this event.
Please note:
This workshop will be rescheduled if there is inclement weather.

  • 5/5 from Jennifer Hilliard, attended Apr 2026: First time trying Raku, and baffled by my results. Same kiln different reactions, am obsessed (knew I was going to be)! Jenny was fabulous and relayed a lot of information in a limited amount of time which was exactly the right amount of time not rushed at all. The studio is beautiful and the setting glorious. Had a fabulous time and the kiln master (sorry I have completely blanked on your name!!) was brilliant and let me peak at my pots!! All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely like to go again Thanks guys xxx
  • 5/5 from Jake Haynes, attended Mar 2026: We both really enjoyed the class. The teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable. I thought the range of colours was ok but was surprised that there was no red. I appreciate this was out of stock when she tried to order it but as this was the first raku class of the year she's had at least 2 months to get it in. I also think it would have been nice to have had the option to make a cup of tea/coffee/water before the class started, especially given how cold it was and the difficulty a lot of the participants had in getting there. But these are only minor points, it was generally a very engaging and exciting class that we enjoyed immensely
  • 5/5 from Ian Donovan, attended Oct 2025: Perfect can’t wait to do it again

  • 5/5 from Helen Williams, attended Mar 2025: What a fantastic session today. I came away with three wonderful pots having practised several different Raku methods. We were very well informed about the subject and had examples of pots to look at before designing our own. Thank you.
