Step 1: Sketch & Plan ✏️

Step 1: Sketch & Plan

Every great artwork starts with an idea.

We start each class by talking through what our artists want to create — Demon Slayers, fantasy worlds, or whatever they love.

Then we learn how to plan it out with light pencil sketches. We practice shapes, proportion, and placement so they feel confident before the paint comes out.

Step 2: Learn Techniques 🖌️ Now we build the skills.

Step 2: Learn Techniques ️ Now We Build the Skills

Before painting, we practice. How to hold a pencil for shading. How to mix the perfect colour. How to use charcoal for shadows and bold outlines.

We teach observational drawing, form, and layering — but we use what kids love as the subject. Pokemon, portraits, landscapes... if they’re excited about it, they’ll learn faster.

It’s technique without the boring bits. Just real art skills that help them draw anything they imagine.

Step 3: Painting Time 🎨

Step 3: Painting Time

We teach kids how to block in backgrounds, mix colours, and add details with confidence. No staying inside the lines required — just creativity and technique.

Look at that focus!

Does your child love drawing Pokémon, anime, fantasy characters, or worlds straight from their own imagination – but wish they had the skills to bring their ideas to life properly?
At this drawing class in Altrincham from Jamination, kids learn real art techniques so they can draw anything they dream up. This isn't crafts or tracing – it's proper drawing and painting, made genuinely fun. In small, friendly group classes for ages 5–18, your child will explore observational drawing, shading with charcoal and coloured pencil, colour mixing, and painting, all built around the characters and styles they already love, so they stay motivated while building real, lasting skills.
They'll learn how to:

  • Master shading, proportion and form with pencils and charcoal
  • Mix colour and apply painting techniques with confidence
  • Create bold outlines and vibrant, eye-catching artwork
  • Draw independently, with the confidence to back it up

FAQ

Do kids need any prior art experience?
No experience needed at all! We start with the basics in Step 1 and build up. Whether it’s their first time holding a paintbrush or they’ve been drawing for years, they’ll learn new skills.
What will my child take home?
Every student takes home their finished artwork — usually a painting or drawing on quality paper/canvas. They’ll also leave with new techniques they can use for future art at home.
Are all materials provided?
Yes! We provide pencils, charcoal, paints, brushes, palettes, paper, and aprons. Just bring your child’s creativity. Clothes might get a little messy so an old shirt is a good idea.
See more FAQs
What kind of things will they draw/paint?
We use what kids love! Plants, cartoon characters, portraits, fantasy scenes, animals... The subject changes each class, but the focus is always on teaching real drawing and painting skills through subjects they’re excited about.
How big are the classes?
Small groups (2-6 children) so every artist gets personal guidance. That way we can help with technique 1-on-1 while still keeping it fun and social.
Can parents stay and watch?
Parents are welcome to stay for the first session to help your child settle in. After that, we find kids focus best and get more creative when it’s just the artists in the room. We’ll send photos of their progress and you can see the finished masterpiece at pickup!
Is the class safe and supervised?
Absolutely. The teacher is fully DBS checked and we follow child safeguarding policies. Classes are small so every child gets support and supervision.
What happens if we miss a class?
Please let us know 12 hours in advance, and we will arrange free make-up class. However, we’re only able to offer 50% refunds for no notice beforehand.
Can siblings or friends join together?
Definitely! We love when kids bring a buddy. Just book separate tickets for each child.
Is there parking / how do I find you?
We’re located in Altrincham with free street parking right outside.
Are refreshments provided?
Yes! We provide light snacks and water during the class. If your child has any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know beforehand so we can make sure everyone stays safe.

I’ve always loved art. But I started Jamination because I kept hearing the same thing from parents: "School just doesn’t offer enough art."
Kids were coming to me saying they loved drawing Pokemon, anime, and their own characters... but they didn’t know HOW. They’d been given colouring sheets, not skills.
The pivotal moment was watching a 7 year old go from "I can’t draw" to holding up a painting of their favourite character and saying "Look what I did". That pride. That lightbulb moment. I was hooked.
I’m passionate about it because every child deserves to feel capable and creative. Art builds confidence, focus, and problem solving. And when we teach them real technique, they can draw anything they imagine.
One week it’s wobbly lines. Next week it’s shading and form. Then suddenly they’re teaching me a new evolution.
I love teaching because it’s not about making mini versions of me. It’s about giving them the tools, then watching them run with it. My job is to be their biggest cheerleader and help them believe: "I can make this."
Most people don’t know that I’m obsessed with learning the things kids love. If there’s a new Pokemon or a trending game character— I’m watching it, sketching it, and figuring out how to teach it.
My craft isn’t just "art". It’s translating. Taking what kids are passionate about and turning it into lessons on light, shadow, proportion, and colour theory without them even realising they’re learning.
Also: I still get nervous before every first class. Because I want every kid to leave feeling proud. That never goes away, and I hope it never does.
