One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Anat Arbel, attended Sep 2026: Lara was professional and patient. We got explanations how to operate the sewing machine in different settings. We trained and got tips how to sew at home. We can’t wait for our next lesson.
  • 5/5 from Caroline Woolf, attended Jun 2026: My teacher was kind and thoughtful.
  • 5/5 from Daniela Jones, attended May 2026: I would highly recommend booking one of these workshops. My tutor Pam was extremely good at showing me how to get the best out of my new Hobbycraft S19 sewing machine which can do everything I need and more. Pam was very friendly, knowledgeable and concise, she tailored the one hour session to exactly what would benefit me. I'm now looking forward to start putting the machine to good use. My current sewing machine dating from 1914 will just become a decorative item. Thank you, Pam, you're a very gifted teacher.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jan 2026: Sue was a fantastic teacher who explained everything carefully and thoroughly. She taught my daughter how to use a sewing machine at a great pace, making the class both engaging and easy to follow. My daughter left saying it was “the best class” and came away with a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Isla O, attended Jan 2026: Great lesson with Sue helping understand the basics of a sewing machine. Lots of patience and created enthusiasm for trying new things at home
  • 5/5 from Kate Farmer, attended Nov 2025: A fantastic time tailored exactly to what we needed. The teacher was knowledgeable, and wonderful with my daughter.
  • 4/5 from Carolyn Livingstone, attended Nov 2025: Teacher was excellent, showed me how the different stitches worked. I'm a rusty almost beginner having done a full course some years ago, but machine didn't really cooperate so only ssprestarted with new machine. The only reason its four instead of five, is because I wish she had told me to write down the different ways of using the different stitches. Being a rather mature beginner my memory is not so good and of course I'm having to try to remember the different steps when changing stitch, length of stitch, etc. Will try and find my answers on Utube, otherwise may just have to book another session in the New Year
  • 5/5 from Hannah Hyland, attended Oct 2025: Sue was amazing.. the company should tell people if they want to use there own sewing machine it should be pat tested. That’s was unfair on Sue who wanted to accommodate but could have lost her job if she let us. She was brilliant and I will book her again. Worth every penny. Thank you Sue

  • 5/5 from Sarah Halm-Owoo, attended Sep 2025: Hi my attendance on the one to one learning is not occasional. What I learnt today is how to put a zip on a garment and I was also thought how to sew a purse My teacher is very polite and always ready to assist. The venue is hygienic and all materials needed were ready before I got there. I like how patient my teacher was with me
  • 5/5 from Sarah Halm-Owoo, attended Sep 2025: Hi! It was one to one learning on dress making and we started by going through on what I did on the previous lessons then I was thought how to sew a button hole cutting on a garment, I also learned how to use smaller zigzag stitches. She explained everything very well to my daughter who has never owned a machine but has taken Textiles in year 9 (so has used them a little at school) We are thinking of buying her a machine at some point so we could ask questions about it the machine too. The member of staff was also great at getting my daughter to thread the machine herself and try out some stitching too after explaining things to her so she managed to get a real feel for sewing on a machine. She was kind and patient throughout answering any questions my daughter or I had. Thank you so much Sue! Hopefully see you again soon!

  • 5/5 from Elaine Govett, attended Jun 2024: Our One to One Sewing Workshop with Kathryn at Reading Hobbycraft was brilliant. Excellent value for money and a great and fun experience. We wanted to know more about sewing machines to help us decide on a new one. Kathryn was super knowledgeable and explained functions and features in an informative and very understandable way. We were very pleased to be able to try the sewing machine we were interested in and Kathryn guided us through how to set it up, thread it up and sew. It was great. We appreciated the test pieces of fabric provided and were super happy we'd covered everything we'd come to find out about and Kathryn made it a great experience and we felt excited and confident about our sewing machine purchase. Highly recommended.

She was supportive & increased my knowledge but it was obviously not as good as it might have been!

  • 5/5 from Becky, attended Nov 2023: I had an introduction class with Pam looking at the basics. As someone new to using a sewing machine Pam was the perfect watcher, as she was super clear and checked what I wanted to learn in the class. Pam explained everything clearly and checked my understanding by asking me to perform the task after she did. I felt like I learnt a lot in one hour, how to set up the machine, what everything does, how to use the different stitch types and had a chance to play around with the stitches.
