What you'll do

Strip away the distractions of colour to focus solely on light and shape in your photography. The black and white image you're left with is intense and full of nuance, an incredible piece of art that can be striking and simple, having more impact than colour.Black and white photography requires a different style and thought process from normal images and is something many master photographers want to master. In this workshop, you will take impactful images and learn how to edit photographs with a monochrome palette.Classes are taught in small groups so you'll get plenty of individual feedback and attention. We recommend you already have some experience with a camera before coming to this class as it does not cover the basics of how to take photographs.During this black and white photography class, you will learn:

- Tones. We will discuss light, colour and grey tones to develop your understanding.
- Subjects and composition. Learn when is a good time to use monochrome and how to take a good black and white photo, based on what the subject is.
- Post-production. Learn how to convert a photo into black and white and the different options such as sepia, bromoil etc.
- Software. Explore different software and plugins for professional photo colour conversions.

A good understanding of basic exposure and your camera’s manual settings is advised.
