What to bring
The first garment we will be cutting out is your trousers / shorts so please have fabric for these. Below is a guide to the amount that you will need but please get in touch before the class to discuss fabric choices if you want to.
The second garment is going to be a sweatshirt/hoody/t-shirt. This fabric will be needed later in the course but the feel free to bring it in earlier.
We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase from us. If you would like to bring your own, see our fabric suggestions and size recommendations below.
Please wash your fabric in a standard cycle before the first class to prevent your fabric from shrinking after it has been sewn (an important step before beginning any sewing project!).
The below measurements are for fabric that is 1.50 metres wide. If the fabric is narrower then you may need to buy more.
Size Guide:
Trousers / Shorts
You’ll need woven fabric (non stretch) for the trousers or shorts, such as cotton, medium-weight denim, corduroy, linen etc.
Here are our recommended measurements:
For Trousers you will need 2.5mts
For Shorts you will need 1mts for sizes Small - Large and 1.5mts for sizes XLarge - XXLarge +.
Sweatshirt/T-shirt/Hoody
Whichever item you choose for your second garment you will need a stretch fabric eg jersey for t-shirt and sweatshirting for the hoody/sweatshirt.
Here are our recommended measurements:
For Sweatshirt / T-shirt that is all the same colour you will need 1.5mts for sizes X Small - Large and 2mts for XLarge - XXLarge + (this is assuming that the fabric is 150cm wide).
For a Sweatshirt / T-shirt With Contrast Sleeves you will need 1mt of each colour - All Sizes
Hoody please add 0.50mts if you would like a hood.
Ribbing (sweatshirt/hoody only) You will need 30cm of ribbing fabric or if you want to buy a ribbing strip you will need roughly 2m
If you would prefer to use the same fabric as your sweatshirt instead of ribbing please allow for a little more in your metreage that you buy.
Sewing machines and all tools will be provided but you’re welcome to bring your own.
