Beginners' Pottery Wheel Class

Try your hand at wheel throwing at this fun London workshop.

2 hours Class size 1 to 2     label £50

Looking for craft classes in London that will help you pick up a new skill? Get your hands messy with homemade clay at this beginner-friendly pottery workshop!

Guided by a professional pottery artist, Suzan, this class will begin with an introduction to the materials, processes and basic techniques of wheel throwing. Your teacher will provide a quick demonstration so you can see exactly how the craft is performed before handing things over to you to begin moulding and shaping your clay.

With a maximum class size of two students, Suzan will be on hand to provide plenty of one-to-one support and answer any questions you may have. Looking for things to do in London with kids? Bring your little ones along and play with clay together! It's a fantastic chance to introduce them to an interactive hobby away from the consoles and screens.

By the end of the class, you will have created a beautiful selection of pots and get to choose your favourite piece to be glazed by Suzan, ready to collect at a later date and display at home!

Please note:

  • Your final pieces will be ready to pick up around three weeks after your class. You will be contacted over email or text when your work is ready. Alternatively, your work can be delivered to you for an additional fee of £6.

You can add these when you book (optional).

Suzan fell in love with clay in her early teens in Turkey but didn't have the chance to get her hands dirty until after she came to London and enrolled on a part-time course in 2004. After finishing her BTEC certification classes in Kensington and Chelsea college Suzan practised her pottery in a studio share in Kilburn.

In 2017 Suzan finally opened her own studio in Plaistow where she designs and creates all of her own work which is inspired by her mixed family background, travels and love for natural objects. Her homeware collection offers a handcrafted alternative to daily life otherwise filled with mass-produced items.

Suzan was such a great teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I’m a beginner to using the pottery wheel and her instruction throughout the class was so helpful and she create a relaxing atmosphere. The small class is an added bonus. I would highly recommend her class and I will definitely be trying pottery again!

Great workshop - We really enjoyed our time with Suzanne. She was incredibly patient and explained everything really clearly. She was amazingly responsive and accommodating, having turned up on the wrong day for our booking, she still managed to fit us in to her busy day. You really felt like nothing was too much trouble. A really lovely experience and way to spend the morning with my teenage daughter. Highly recommend.

This was one of the best days out I’ve had in ages. The course was informative, fun and really well taught. I couldn’t believe how much I achieved in just 2 hours. I wrote down all the tips and techniques I was shown and am already itching to get back on the wheel. A highly recommended course.

I had a great time learning to throw on the wheel. The teacher was there for guidance and support and there was plenty of time to practice.
I’m looking forward to seeing my finished bowl when it’s fired and glazed! Thanks very much!
