Beginner's Kintsugi Workshop

Learn to repair broken ceramics with the beautiful kintsugi method.

2 hours Class size 15 to 30 guests       £65 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

In this kintsugi workshop in London, you’ll learn both the practical techniques of kintsugi and the wider philosophy of wabi-sabi -- embracing imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty found in age and repair. The session is skill-focused and designed to give you the confidence to continue repairing your own ceramic pieces independently at home!
This workshop is accessible and thoughtfully paced, with clear guidance throughout. No prior experience is needed, and the emphasis is on learning, focus, and mindful making rather than rushing to a perfect finish.
What to expect:
  • An introduction to the principles of kintsugi and wabi-sabi.
  • Learn hands-on ceramic repair techniques with visible seams.
  • Step-by-step guidance to build confidence and practical skill.
  • A calm, focused session centred on craft and philosophy.
  • Skills you can later apply to your own ceramics at home.
Workshops are held in central London and in CRATE brewery for larger group or corporate bookings. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of kintsugi, practical repair skills, and a renewed appreciation for objects that carry their history proudly rather than hiding it.
What you'll get
  • All materials are provided, including pre selected ceramic pieces, traditional and contemporary kintsugi materials, specialist tools, and full guidance throughout the session.
  • Each participant completes a repair on a supplied ceramic object.

Potters Thumb is a pottery studio based at the White Building in Hackney Wick. Founded by Mark Ciavola six years ago and originally based in Brighton, our new home in London is a fully functional, multi-use studio space offering five potters wheels, a pug mill, handbuilding facilities and kiln services.
Wanting to spread his love for ceramics, Mark founded Potters Thumb to make his work available to all those who appreciate hand thrown and hand made ceramic sculptures. With the new facilities, Potters Thumb can now also share the joy of clay work with others - whether you're a novice looking to get your hands mucky in one of our introductory classes, or a practiced ceramicist looking for a studio space to call home. Potters Thumb can offer something for everyone.
