What you'll do
Discover the properties and possibilities of hand-building with this beginner's pottery course. Sink your hands into the wonderful world of clay and find your new favourite hobby in this creative London activity.
You'll be welcomed into this fun and welcoming pottery studio by your talented teacher. Through detailed demonstrations and hands-on experience, you will learn some basic pottery-making steps like pinching and slab building.
Pottery course schedule
- Week one: You will be able to try out a variety of hand-building techniques and start making objects.
- Week two: Expand on the techniques you learned in week one. Following demonstrations from your talented teacher, you will learn surface decorating techniques such as using sprigs, sgraffito and slip trailing to bring colour and texture to your work.
- Week three: More time to continue making your pieces.
- Week four: Introduction to glazes. You will be able to try out a variety of decorating/glaze techniques on your now bisc-fired objects using glaze and underglaze.
Once your pieces are finished, they can be fired and collected within three to four weeks. If you do want anything fired, it will be an additional cost of £4 per kg.

Culford Studio Ceramics is a group of professional ceramic artists who are based within Culford Studios. Alongside their individual art practice, various members of the studio also run workshops; teaching a rich and wide range of skills suitable to both beginners and more experienced practitioners.
