Join this advanced relief printing class in London and take your woodcut skills to the next level. If you've already tried your hand at basic printing, this workshop is a wonderful way to rekindle your creativity through more complex methods like multi-coloured reduction and multi-block printing.
You'll spend the session in a professional studio environment, where you'll have the chance to experiment with high-quality traditional tools and playful techniques. Your teacher, Alex, will guide you through a structured process designed to boost your confidence and help you master the craft:
  • Overview of the studio print archive – Browse examples of finished work to inspire your own designs and get familiar with the expert tools available.
  • Planning your print – Map out the reduction cut or multi-block process with expert guidance.
  • Printing your edition – Spend plenty of time creating test prints and proofs before moving on to your final edition of prints.
  • Packing up – Your individual prints will be rolled into protective tubes, making them easy to get home safely.
To help you continue your creative obsession, you'll receive a hand-picked list of the teacher's favourite material suppliers. It’s a fantastic resource for anyone looking to set up their own practice at home.
The studio provides a welcoming, low-pressure atmosphere where you can focus entirely on your work. Evening sessions include plenty of snacks for those coming straight from a busy day, while day workshops feature a light, plant-based lunch of homemade soup and sourdough. You'll leave with a beautiful set of handmade prints and a fresh set of skills that will stay with you long after the class ends.
Please note: The studio is located on floor 6 at Regent Studios. If you are not taking the stairs, please take the right-hand lift to floor 6 and head to studio 64B. Please let the teacher know in advance if you have any dietary requirements or allergies.

Join London-based printmaker Alex Booker and create your own artwork using a Japanese wood block printing method.
Draw and cut your own woodblock using Japanese Shina plywood and traditional tools and explore the process of hand-printing on different paper types. Then learn how to use multiple blocks to build colour and design, as well as reduction-cutting techniques to create more complex prints.
Both sides of the wood as useable so you will have plenty of time to create one or two designs. You will be able to make multiple prints and even create your own editions if you wish! Prints will be safely rolled ready to carry home.
Suitable for beginners. All equipment and materials will be provided as well as non alcoholic refreshments.
Alex recommends bringing material or inspiration for your prints to help create your designs - he often draws inspiration from postcards, photos and drawings for his own work. There will also be plenty of art books and prints from previous workshops to show this exciting and varied art form!
