In this intuitive painting workshop near Kingston, you will learn how to create wonderful abstract art. Exploring expressive mark-making, you'll experiment with various tools and mediums – including charcoal, pencil, ink, collage, and colour – all on paper. By the end of the class, you'll have your very own finished masterpiece to take home and proudly display.
This activity takes place in a welcoming and supportive studio environment in East Molesey, designed to help you paint freely and leave any fears behind. The focus is on intuitive painting, which simply means learning how to connect with your own emotions and feelings as you create, without overthinking it. An initial demonstration will show you how the painting process begins, helping you feel comfortable getting started.
Guided by your tutor, you'll explore different ways to make marks and use colour, allowing your personal interpretation and feelings to shine through in your artwork. You'll get hands-on experience with the materials, learning how to use them in expressive ways. With small class sizes (just 4-6 students), you'll receive plenty of individual assistance. The studio itself is nicely situated on the Mole River in East Molesey, with easy access via train and bus services, plus parking available nearby.

At Hampton Court Studio, you will be welcomed by Margie Haslewood.
Our studio is situated on the River Mole where we hold various classes and workshops. Your teacher will be Margie Haslewood who has studied ceramics and painting at the Frank Joubert School of Art in Cape Town. She has also studied with various teachers who gave her a varied knowledge which she loves to share with her students.
Workshops are held regularly starting with beginners in both abstract and representational art styles.
We also hold 6 week courses in drawing & painting.
Margie is a practicing, professional artist who exhibits locally and further afield. She has helped run workshops at art societies and has taught at U3A in Kingston for a few years.
