Join us on a Saturday morning for a 6-week pottery wheel throwing class where you will learn the basics of throwing, including centring the clay on the wheel, throwing cylinders and bowls, and trimming the bases of your work.
Designed and led by Merissa Hylton, a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in London.
Week 1 | Introduction to Pottery & Wedging Clay
Overview of the course, health and safety guidelines, introduction to tools and materials. Demonstration and practise of wedging clay to remove air bubbles and prepare it for wheel throwing.
Week 2 | Centring
Learning the importance of centring clay on the wheel to create even shapes and avoid cracks.
Week 3 | Coning
Practise coning clay to build height and improve strength in preparation for forming vessels.
Week 4 | Creating Cylinders
Guidance on forming cylinders using the wheel, focusing on techniques to maintain even walls.
Week 5 | Crafting Bowls
Instruction on shaping clay into bowls, learning how to control the curve and thickness of the walls.
Week 6 | Wheel Throwing Practise
Practise various wheel throwing techniques such as pulling, stretching, and altering forms.
Session repeats

This class series runs over 6 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.
