5 Week Wheel Throwing Pottery Course

Learn the basics of throwing in this compact ceramics course in London.

4 x 2 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests       £250

Important venue update: All workshops will take place at our new studio at 377 Station Road, Forest Gate.
In this hands-on four-week ceramics course, you'll learn the foundational skills of wheel throwing, progressing from basic forms to more complex pieces. Each week builds your confidence and abilities, culminating in a collection of handmade pottery you'll be proud to display or use at home.
Starting with the essential skill of centring clay on the wheel, you'll develop your technique week by week in a supportive London studio environment. The course is carefully structured to help you master each new challenge:
  • Week 1 - Centering and throwing a cylinder
  • Week 2 - Centering and throwing a bowl
  • Week 3 - Centering and throwing a lidded jar
  • Week 4 - Trimming your pieces
  • Week 5 - Glazing pieces (This date is not included in your booking and is bookable seperately on a monthly basis)
The small class size ensures you'll receive plenty of individual guidance as you learn to feel the clay and respond to its movements on the wheel.
You will be required to return to the studio 6 weeks after you glaze the works to collect them. Postage is available at extra cost.
Please note: We strive to help you create something amazing during your pottery class. Because each piece is handmade and involves many variables (such as clay handling, glaze, and firing conditions), we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for defects or damages that occur in items you’ve made.

Recent reviews of 5 Week Wheel Throwing Pottery Course

  • 5/5 from Joanna Lam, attended Jul 2026: Great throwing course for beginners and small groups. I booked this class with my sisters so the class felt quite intimate and we all got a lot out of each of the lessons. Can't wait to pick up our finished products. We would all highly recommend this course, Lucy, our teacher was fab and great and at guiding us and answering our questions! Love supporting a new local business.
  • 5/5 from Matthew Taylor, attended Jul 2026: I really enjoyed this course, both for the time spent at classes, which were fun and engaging, and the outcomes it gave me, both skills-wise, and pots-wise. I came away with things that I am proud of.
  • 5/5 from Dom Spong, attended May 2026: I really enjoyed this course. Ali is a great teacher with limitless patience and encouraging words. You will learn (or at least begin to learn) proper technique. The space is lovely and inviting and the course itself is great value for money.
  • 5/5 from Juliana Demartini, attended Feb 2026: Ali was just incredible. I had the best time and would really recommend this course to anyone!
  • 5/5 from Zura Wafir, attended Feb 2026: The best pottery course ever! The instructor Ali was super patient, helpful and clear when explaining things. The small class size was perfect so that you could ask lots of questions and get enough guidance. We also had plenty of time to make lots of different things, and I felt like I challenged myself a lot. Thanks so much!
  • 5/5 from Keltia Araujo, attended Feb 2026: It's truly worth it! I can't believe how many pieces we created in just a few classes. Ali, our teacher, was absolutely fantastic—so calm and patient. I highly recommend it!
  • 5/5 from Isobel, attended Jan 2026: I signed up to this course after doing a couple of the single throwing classes. It was great to make progress and try progressively more complex techniques, ending up with a lot of lovely things for friends and family. Ali is a great teacher and the small class size means lots of hands on help! As always really nice selection of glazes for the finished pieces.
  • 5/5 from Lucinda Young, attended Jul 2025: I loved this class! I've never used a wheel before (or really done any art or pottery since school) so I was a little worried that I'd be out of my depth, but as there were only 3 of us on the course it was easy to get a lot of guidance each week. The other people in my group had more pottery experience than me but it still felt super inclusive and I felt that the class was well structured with a good pace. I learned a lot from the instructor Ali, who was very encouraging, patient and knowledgeable. I'm really happy that I did this class and I'd definitely recommend it!
  • 5/5 from Helen French, attended Mar 2025: Ali is a very patient teacher, with lots of tips to help with the parts of throwing I’ve struggled with (like centering and the first pull). We threw cylinders and bowls, then combined the two techniques to make a lidded jar which was very satisfying! Would highly recommend this class for both beginners and those with some throwing experience looking to improve.
