Join this fun pottery course in Wimbledon and discover a wonderful new hobby. This is a perfect activity for beginners, offering you dedicated time with staff over a rolling four-week programme.
We will introduce you to a range of handbuilding techniques and practices. This workshop covers all the fundamentals of how to work with clay, along with basic decorating techniques and simple glazing.
The January schedule is:
  • Week 1: Kurinuki pot – You will start with a solid block of clay and carve it out to create an interior.
  • Week 2: Vase – Slab-built vessel, you can choose from a cylindrical or rectangle design.
  • Week 3: Plate – Using a mould, you can decorate this using coloured slips.
  • Week 4: Glazing – Glazing your pieces.
The February schedule is:
  • Week 1: Mug – Pinch pot mug with a handle.
  • Week 2: Coiled planter – Using crank clay which will be suitable for outdoor use.
  • Week 3: Bowl – Using a mould, you can decorate this with sgraffito using slips.
  • Week 4: Glazing – Glazing your pieces.
These workshops run for consecutive weeks on the same day at the same time. Sorry, but if you’re unable to make a week, we’re not able to offer any alternative sessions.
Please be aware that this listing does not include wheel throwing; we offer that as a separate listing.
You'll finish the course with a fantastic new set of skills and a wonderful sense of achievement, taking home a collection of beautifully glazed, hand-built pottery items that you made yourself.
What you'll get
We provide a set amount of clay to be used each week. This has been calculated to ensure that your pieces will have enough time to dry (and be fired once) before the final week of glazing.
Knowledge required
This workshop is suitable for beginners.
What to bring
We do not provide aprons, please bring your own to the workshop each session or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.
No food is to be consumed in the workshop, we allow drinks in closed bottles.
Workshop 305 cannot be held responsible for any personal items that have been removed and subsequently lost or left behind – for instance, items of jewellery, clothing or bags.
Long manicured nails can make it tricky to work with clay, please be aware of this.
Please make sure that long hair is tied back when using any equipment.
Be aware that there is a possibility of work getting damaged during the firing process or when being moved. Please listen carefully to instructions to minimise the risk of damage either to your own or to other people’s work.
We use clear glaze and slips for surfaces that are likely to come into contact with food. Decorative glaze techniques can be explored on other surfaces.
Session repeats

This class series runs over 4 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.
