Demo

Settle in and get ready to craft with clay. Our instructor will give you a step-by-step demonstration of throwing.

Centering

Centering

It is the first step and the hardest, so we will give you plenty of pointers and assistance and will work as a group to master the first ball of clay.

Shape Your Pot

Shape Your Pot

Open up to form the inner floor of the pot, pull up the walls, and give your pot shape. Once you have a fully formed pot, we will help you wire it off. Breathe -- you've got this!

Practice, Practice, Practice

Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you've got the hang of it, you will repeat the process several times giving you a selection of pots. At the end of the session, you can choose your keepers.

Most importantly -- Laugh!

Most Importantly - Laugh

The best potters are the ones who arrive relaxed and don't take themselves too seriously! No one walks away an expert after 1 hour, but everyone walks away with a new love of the craft and a smile.

Ever wanted to try your hand at the pottery wheel? This wheel throwing workshop in Warwickshire is your chance.
No experience needed -- just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands a bit messy (a sense of humour also helps). Whether you're after a new hobby, a relaxing afternoon, or just want to see what it's like to "throw" a pot, come give it a try.
You'll work alongside our instructor, who will start off the session with a step-by-step demonstration. After this, you will have a go with the clay yourself, learning to centre, open, pull up, and watch the clay slowly become something uniquely yours. It's harder than it looks (that's part of the fun), and our instructor will be right there to help when the clay has other plans.
By the end, you'll have a selection of pots made by you, on a wheel, from scratch. There's something genuinely satisfying about that cool, wet clay spinning under your hands, and most people find the whole process surprisingly calming (and sometimes quite funny).
What you'll get
  • An apron and all materials/tools you'll need.
  • Collect your dry pot for free, or for a small fee, you can have a pot or two fired and glazed!
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly.
What to bring
Just yourself!

I spent years in the C-suite of software and biotech — successful on the outside, exhausted on the inside. I was stressed, anxious, and trapped on a corporate hamster wheel that just kept spinning faster. Then I tried pottery. My mind cleared, my anxiety melted away, and for the first time in years I had to let go of perfection — because clay simply won't allow it.
When The Old Bank building became available right in front of my home in Henley-in-Arden, I stepped inside out of curiosity and immediately knew it was meant to be a pottery studio. With 12 professional wheels and a dedicated hand-building area for up to 10, it is the perfect space to practice pottery in all of its forms. To ensure the highest level of instruction, I brought Selby Dickinson on board — a studio potter, expert thrower, and brilliant teacher with over 30 years of experience. Selby has great banter, can teach all age groups, is extremely supportive, and, most importantly, he is passionate about his craft.
What I love most is seeing clay do to others what it did to me — watching people fall in love with pottery at one of our beginner taster classes, discover the joy of refining their thrown creations in a Wheel Throwing 101 weekend intensive, and then develop their own unique practice in one of our pottery clubs. Students arrive stressed and leave transformed all while developing new friendships over a shared love of making. In short, I love every bit of it... except maybe all the cleaning!
