Welding 101 Workshop

Intensive tuition with the three most used welding techniques.

7 hours Class size 1 to 2     label £170 - £260 (£260 per guest when you book for 1 guest, £170 for 2 guests)

This 1 or 2-day workshop will focus on the equipment and skills needed to weld steel and other metals, with a City & Guilds qualified tutor. Even though this isn’t a qualification, Philip teaches City & Guilds at Plumpton College so can take you through the same learning schemes.

You will:

  • Be introduced to the three most commonly used welding processes - MIG, TIG, and MMA (stick) welding.
  • Be shown how to set up the equipment for each welding process.
  • Experiment with different materials - steel, aluminium, and stainless steel.
  • Produce a series of metal joints and learn how to assess them.

The 2-day workshop will give you more time to experiment with the 3 welding processes, focus on one or some of them, or try your hand at oxyacetylene welding and brazing.

Please note that 2-day courses need to be booked as 2 x one-day courses and won't run on consecutive days. Philip is available to run his courses on Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Saturdays.

Philip is happy to adapt the course to suit your needs:
  • If you are more interested in MIG or TIG, for example, then you can spend more time on that.
  • If you want to spend some time looking at specific skills - like fabrication or positional welding - then that is also fine.

Get ready to get deep into the welding zone! Philip will also give you an insight into his practise and how to get into metal art or metal fabrication, over a well-brewed coffee, tea, or infusion.
