For students who have completed our Beginner Kintsugi course at Art4Space, this workshop introduces the more imaginative Japanese craft of Yobitsugi (Joint-Call).
While Kintsugi repairs a broken object by rejoining its original pieces, Yobitsugi is a different craft: it brings fragments from entirely different ceramics into the repair. Rather than trying to make the replacement blend in, Yobitsugi celebrates the contrast. The mismatched, patchwork appearance is an intentional part of the design, bringing together different colours, patterns, histories and stories to create something entirely new.
In this hands-on advanced class, an experienced and friendly Art4Space teacher will guide you through:
  • Source and select complementary ceramic fragments
  • Shape and fit replacement pieces
  • Join them using Kintsugi repair techniques
The result is a unique ceramic object where the contrast between the original and added pieces becomes part of its beauty.
As well as enjoying the creative, hands-on experience with all the materials and tools provided, you’ll explore the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi and the idea that breakage and loss can become opportunities for creativity, renewal, and transformation. No two pieces are ever the same, making each Yobitsugi repair a truly original work of art.
Join your teacher in our creative, inclusive, and welcoming environment and discover this fascinating next step in your Kintsugi journey. It’s a wonderful opportunity to develop your repair skills while creating a completely unique piece to treasure.
