What you'll do

Discover your creative side in this relaxed guided painting class in London. Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply looking for a fun and creative activity, this session is designed to help you unwind and enjoy the process of painting.

Led by a friendly resident artist, you’ll be guided step-by-step through a painting while learning simple techniques along the way. You’re encouraged to add your own style and make the artwork your own.

This workshop uses acrylic paints on canvas and is suitable for all experience levels — no prior painting experience is needed.

The experience:

This is a fun and social activity, perfect for individuals, couples, or groups looking for something creative to do in London. All materials are provided, so you can simply turn up and start painting.

A fully stocked bar is available on site serving a range of drinks, and food and refreshments are available to purchase during your session.

I was looking for something that the whole team would enjoy and came across this site. The booking process was super easy and the questions I raised were responded to within the day. We were welcomed by our artist who immediately put us at ease and even made those who were a little reticent to feel comfortable. Very quickly we were all busy painting. The artist was supportive and guided us when we needed it. The session was well timed and we all managed to complete our work within the 2 hours. Albeit my perfectionism usually gets in the way as I get frustrated with errors or imperfections but the teacher was so helpful with guiding us along the way and giving us tips to fix or improve our brush techniques etc Thank you for a great and fun experience!

Even though we had no experience in painting whatsoever, we felt very welcome and our questions were answered quickly. We painted a scenery of a sun reflected on an ocean backdrop. The teacher Eleanor was friendly and put everyone at ease. Although there was structure to the painting we were advised that we could change some elements, for example colour, and how we could use this to contrast or use harmonious colours. The demonstration was very clear and completing the painting within the allocated time was realistic. We were provided with acrylic paints and different size brushes and were told how we could adapt to suit our own preference, ie using heavy bodied acrylic paint for texture. We all had a very enjoyable time and I will certainly be booking more classes. Thankyou

Most of us were not artsy but managed to create something beautiful with 7 out of 8 of us taking our creations home. Our teacher was Sophia and she was friendly and helpful all the way through out the activity. Since our session was 10.30am to 12.30pm, we were able to leave the canvas there and collect them later which was helpful.

We were moved upstairs into a public space which was cold and with no alternative space to paint in. We had to ask cups for drinks and there was a lack of supplies available given that the set up was a “pop up” style away from the main event space. The girls weren’t set up for the correct number of people which meant a late start to our painting experience but an abrupt finish where a lot of the attendee’s felt rushed and unfinished in what they were working on. As we were situated next to a bar, the bar staff began packing away seating and literally pushed their way by our group which was unnecessary as we did not choose to work in that space. Some of us made the most of the experience however others left feeling understandably frustrated and disappointed due to the miscommunication, the unorganised set up and the lack of guidance throughout the painting session.

Art Play London was founded by Silva Castellani in 2018, starting in galleries such as Phillips, and pop up venues around London.

Art Play is now a new art studio which opened in East London in February 2022, where children and adults of all ages are free to release their imaginations and inner creativity.

Art Play has a strong focus and the environment and aims to educate children and adults on their environmental impact through art, using a variety of sustainable mediums and materials.

Art Play is part of the worldwide Precious Plastic community which means it will be a plastic collection point for people to drop off their HDPE plastic which would otherwise end up in landfills or the ocean. The plastic is then shredding and melted and turned into useful objects and pieces of art, such as plant pots and coasters.
