Choose Your Design

Before you arrive, take a moment to think about what you would like to create or look at, keeping in mind that a simple yet effective design often yields the best results. As you plan, consider your colour palette—ideally restricted to a maximum of 4–6 colours—and where you intend to place your finished tuft once you take it home.

Arrive ready to tuft

Arrive Ready to Tuft

For your safety when using the tufting gun, please arrive prepared with no loose clothing, jewellery, or hair. It is important to note that your design will already be drawn up on the frame and the yarn will be stocked, so we are unable to change the design on the day. Additionally, please allow for the full duration of the workshop and feel free to take advantage of the free onsite parking.

Welcome and safety

Welcome and Safety

Upon arrival, you can enjoy a warm or cold drink while we conduct a swift safety and operating demonstration of your cut-pile A K-1 tufting gun. Afterward, you will have the chance to get acquainted with your station and practice some lines before you officially start tufting!

As you create, you will work on the back of the tuft and watch your artwork come to life on the opposite side of the frame. The process is very much like colour by numbers, and you will see your design emerge step by step. Throughout the workshop, the Louka team will always be on hand to support you.

FAQ

Is it like a sewing machine?
The tufting gun is like a hand held sewing machine, the 'foot' of the sewing machine is similar to the foot of the tufting gun which is pushed through the frame and the yarn is cut on the opposite side of the fabric. The yarn is threaded through the scissors at the foot of the gun but the tufting gun is easier to operate, thread and use than a sewing machine and is entirely operated by hand. It is relatively quiet to operate and sounds similar to a sewing machine.
What if i make a mistake?
We all make mistakes so please don't worry! As the tufted stitch is not secured until the entire piece is finished, if you make a mistake and stitch the wrong colour or in the wrong place, you can just pull the yarn out and set off tufting again!

Louka Studio & Co. is home to the creatives where we don't just think it...we TUFT IT!
Our studio is nestled in a cozy corner of West Yorkshire and is a sanctuary for all things tufted and all things creative. We are a mother/daughter duo - Louise & Keri. We each share backgrounds in both people development and the creative space. Louise studied BA(Hons) in Architecture and MSc Corporate Real Estate, while Keri studied BA(Hons) Fashion Management and Communication, working for an events company upon graduating, designing events and experiences. We each work in people development with qualifications in behavioral profiling and team dynamics as trainers for businesses across all industries. We feel passionately about bringing people together with the purpose of creation as well as providing a safe space for mental well-being and coordinating mind and body. We are all unique, and we each learn in different ways and at different paces, and all we ask is you be yourself, true to your style in an inclusive space!
At the beginning of 2024, we experienced a tufting workshop together as a chance to learn something new, take something home with us that we made together, and leave all our worries at the door. We wasted no time in setting up a home studio, creating beautiful pieces for our own homes, alongside selling our designs and taking commissions.
Our Louka Studio & Co. premises offer creative studio space, born from the many requests from clients and the public to come and do a workshop with us. We opened our doors in December 2025 and have welcomed wonderful projects, people, and tufts into the business since. We stock a wide variety of yarn colors to create fun and quirky artwork/rugs as well as abstract, simplistic, functional, and tonal pieces. Muted and textured designs are popular, with landscapes and natural organic shapes as well as pet portraits and animal designs.
