Who Is the Ink Making Workshop For?

Teams, family groups, friends, art lovers, nature lovers, environmentalists and anyone wanting to learn a fascinating new hobby.

Enjoy the company of others in a very easy and relaxing way.

Enjoy painting with beautiful handmade inks that you craft from botanical ingredients.
In this creative and calming ink-making workshop, you become completely immersed in shades of PURPLE, Fuschia and blue-grey using black grapes, elder and pokeweed berries.
You'll start by peeling the berries from their stalks, then crushing and grinding them in a traditional pestle and mortar. It's slow, repetitive work, and easy to relax into. Once the juice is sieved, you'll learn how to preserve it and bottle your fresh ink.
While you relax, you'll sip a handmade mocktail made with homegrown organic herbs and ingredients, with your choice of one of our three house blends of herbal tonic: Calm, Clarity or Courage.
Then the paper is yours. Mix up different shades of ink, and try brushes, feathers and sponges to make doodles, patterns, lettering or anything else that comes to mind. You might write a note to yourself, a poem or a letter to someone you love. There's no right or wrong here, and you can do whatever you want, just having fun with the colours, or going for something more structured.
Making ink by hand is a very old skill, and it's a satisfying one to learn from scratch. Everything you need is provided, including gloves and aprons to keep the berry juice off your hands and clothes. When the painting's done, we’ll brew up our farm grown organic meadow tea for you to savour before you leave.
You'll head home with a gorgeous tiny bottle of purple ink you made yourself and your finished artwork, ready to keep painting at home whenever you want a calm moment.
This workshop is a lovely, unusual pick for a birthday present, date night, a catch-up with friends, a hen party or a team activity out, and a friendly first step into a new hobby.
We can’t wait to welcome you into the wonderful creative world of Plants for Pigments.
