Recent reviews of Private Sewing Class: Copy Your Favourite Garment

  • 5/5 from Cath Palmer, attended Feb 2026: Gave a good basic understanding to copy my favorite garment. Hopefully, once I find some similar fabric, I will make a reasonable attempt at making it? One suggestion I would give regarding finding the location, you could supply a little map in you communication with customers, to make it easier to find the studio entrance.
  • 5/5 from Tali Singer, attended Dec 2025: Claire is a really thorough and professional make, with flexibility (I chose a unique garment) and a really calm way of teaching. We are going to work together to complete it, and I can't wait. Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Tanja van Oudtshoorn, attended Nov 2025: Great class, will probably book another to help me actually see the garment. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from George Hempenstall, attended Oct 2025: Enjoyed the class, very well taught and left with a pattern, very informative and great introduction for me into the space.
  • 5/5 from Sheila White, attended Aug 2025: I really enjoyed this 1:1 class. Claire is clearly very skilled and was very patient in demonstrating and explaining how to make a pattern for pyjama bottoms from an existing pair. I had bought the fabric for these thinking it would be easy to copy them myself but soon realised I needed help and feel much more confident now after a couple of hours with Claire. There was time to cut them out too which was great. I definitely recommend and may well return for some more sessions.
  • 5/5 from Susan Smith, attended Jul 2025: Claire was very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful when showing me what to do and how to do it! Would recommend this class to all.
  • 5/5 from Sarah Muscolini, attended May 2025: Claire is really great! Very good, patient, kind and helpful. I have known her for several years and I am always very excited to work with her.
  • 5/5 from Efi Tzoura, attended Mar 2025: Claire is always great and I learn many new things in each class!
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Oct 2024: Really informative class and have come away with a perfect fit pattern to make more trousers at home!
  • 5/5 from Amity Fisher, attended Aug 2024: I love how the class was structure around what i wanted to learn. We went over the basics, teaching me all the little tricks you can’t learn online. But also began copying a garment. I will definitely be going back for more classes!
  • 5/5 from Nikki West, attended Aug 2024: This was such a brilliant 2 hours! Claire showed me how to make a paper pattern from an existing dress - but in such a thorough way - so I completely understood where and how to make adjustments for darts, and for the shape of the body. She provided guidance on sourcing all the equipment we used and answered my (many!) questions on fabrics etc. The two hours flew by. I have come home with not only the actual pattern pieces but the original drawing we started from. The studio was lovely and it was a hands-on experience right from the outset - where I could copy what she did. Highly recommended for anyone who has done a little dressmaking already and is familiar with the basics of a paper pattern. I cant wait to make the garment now!
  • 5/5 from Jill, attended Jul 2024: Claire, the teacher was lovely. The course is eadily accessible. The area is very pleasant. She answered my queries before the class. The course is very practical. Claire supports you to make a pattern. The tools and materials are all provided and she gave me a good explanation of how to complete the garment when I get home. I would happily do another class with Claire.
  • 5/5 from Yathiwadee Anankul, attended Dec 2023: The class was amazing - very tailored to what I wanted to do. Claire is a great teacher, explaining each step, with helpful tips and tricks along the way
  • 5/5 from Barbara Adolph, attended Nov 2023: Louise is a real pro and showed me how to do the pattern for my favourite skirt (which wasn't as easy as I had thought). We cut the material, but two hours were not enough to sew it as well. Hopefully I will be able to do that on my own. It was fun and I learnt a lot.
  • 5/5 from Sarolta Berke, attended Sep 2023: Claire was super professional, the trade is in her little finger. She helped me draw up the pattern for my favourite Toast dress. All I needed to take with me was the dress, she provided everything else. She also gave me good advice about how to proceed wit the sewing. She is kind and precise, I can only recommend her class.
  • 5/5 from Salma, attended Aug 2023: I discovered "copy your favourite garment" after having stumbled across the session via a google search for sewing classes - and I was not disappointed! I read lots of positive reviews before I booked and I'd agree with all of them. Claire's just great. Full of amazing knowledge and expertise that she's more than happy to share and was open to being asked general sewing related questions as we went along - I got some great general tips from her. Not only did I come home with a pattern for one of my favourite dresses, I feel I have a better general understanding of how to copy garments for myself at home and will be practising with other pieces no doubt. I will most definitely be booking more sessions with Claire in the future!
  • 5/5 from Sarah Muscolini, attended Jun 2023: Claire is very kind, very good, comprehensive and pragmatic. With her technical applications and demonstrations she taught me a real method (all in just a few hours of lessons). I will go back there soon to analyse and deepen other weaknesses.
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Burgess, attended Feb 2023: Favourite garment that you want to reproduce? Take this class and you leave with a pattern and the skills to make patterns from other clothes in your wardrobe. Friendly tutor, good equipment and setting.
  • 5/5 from Gillian Iversen, attended Jan 2023: Claire was very knowledgeable and I am looking forward to being able to make my favourite garment.
  • 5/5 from Jane Barker, attended Oct 2022: Claire was very welcoming and provided excellent directions which was very welcome. Claire was patient and explained each process in detail. I would recommend this class. Materials were provided and gadgets uses were explained. Jane

My name is Claire and I am The Ethical Tailor. I am the founder of Moxie Craft sewing skills and Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailors based in Canning Town. I grew up in Harlow, Essex with a creative mother and an entrepreneur father. After gaining a BA(Hons) degree in clothing design and tailoring from Brighton University, I ventured into the world and set up my company to combat the inequalities of the fashion industry I had been subject to.
By creating zero waste through pattern cutting, natural dyeing and sourcing the most sustainable cloth and haberdashery we aim to have very little negative impact on the planet and local people.
Now with 20 years of retail knowledge and 18 years of tailoring experience and 6 years of teaching behind me, I feel confident in my ability to produce clothing that is timeless. Clothing construction is a great passion of mine that sits juxtaposed with a strong interest in the environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry. I aim to be a contributing factor in helping to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry whilst educating people about the issue through my workshops and trading fairly within the supply chain.
