Nature Blueprint - Cyanotype Workshop

Discover cyanotype during London Climate Week in this hands-on workshop, where nature becomes your co-author.

1.5 hours

Class size 1 to 8 (public classes), 4 to 30

£20 (£20 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

Join this cyanotype workshop at Trinity Buoy Wharf and slow right down for a few hours of sunshine, blue ink, and nature.
Before the session begins, you're encouraged to take a gentle wander through the Lee Valley – past Bow Creek Ecology Park and East India Dock Basin – collecting impressions, textures, and perhaps a few natural treasures to bring to the studio. It's a lovely way to arrive: unhurried, curious, and a little bit switched off from everything else.
Then you'll head to BE Ka Art Studio, Elena's riverside atelier at Trinity Buoy Wharf, for a hands-on cyanotype printing session. Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes around – and one of the most satisfying. Using sunlight, water, and natural materials, you'll arrange botanicals, feathers, shells, and found objects onto coated paper, expose them to light, then rinse your print and watch the image bloom in that distinctive deep, luminous blue. No cameras, no screens, no prior experience needed. Just you, some plants, and the sun doing the work.
You can also add wooden letters, handwritten details, or your own drawings to make the piece feel personal. If the weather's overcast, UV light has you covered.
These workshops are part of Elena's Nature & Back to Gaia series, dedicated to the Back to Gaia – A Copyright for Nature project. The initiative's founder will be present to share the vision behind the project, and 10% of every ticket is donated directly to support and protect the natural world.
Everything is included – A5 coated paper in your choice of colour, acrylic film, botanicals, feathers, shells, small wooden craft letters, trays, and all cyanotype materials. You're welcome to bring extra natural objects of your own if you'd like. Additional paper in different sizes and colours, plus acetate sheets and markers, will be available to buy on the day.
You'll leave with original cyanotype artworks you made yourself – one-of-a-kind pieces that couldn't have come from anywhere else.

About Elena
Elena is an Italian visual artist and creative wellbeing workshops director, originally from Bologna and now based in London. Passionate about creativity from an early age, she studied Fine Arts and Sciences as a teenager before going on to earn first-class degrees, including a BA in Painting and Photography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna — where she also worked as an assistant to a professor on the etching course — a Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Arts, and a Master's in Art and Science from Central Saint Martins (UAL). She is also certified in Creative Health and Wellbeing through Artmaking at Central Saint Martins.
Her background is as layered as her practice — she has worked as a photographer, artist, graphic designer, Fine Art restorer, and gallery assistant, exhibited in Bologna, Venice, Milan and London, and previously trained as a Hatha yoga teacher and Reiki practitioner. These experiences all shape her warm, holistic approach to art and teaching. Elena holds an Enhanced DBS check and teaches on platforms including Tutorful, MyTutor and Superprof.
Classes & Workshops
Classes and workshops are deeply rooted in health and wellbeing through artmaking, human connection and nature. Open to all, regardless of experience or background, Elena has taught students and professionals of all ages and nationalities, in one-to-one and group settings, both online and in person. Workshops are designed to be as accessible, allergy-friendly and environmentally sustainable as possible.
Her approach is relaxed and playful, encouraging you to connect with materials, with others, and with yourself.
Creative practices do more than inspire — they heal. They reduce stress hormones, calm the nervous system, ease physical tension and pain, and support emotional balance. In creative flow, the brain enters a meditative state, bringing clarity and relaxation.
Art helps you slow down, reconnect, and feel grounded. It’s not about the result — it’s about the experience.
Creativity is medicine.
