Multi-coloured Lino Print Course

Join this multi-coloured lino print course in London and learn how to master the lino reduction method, a fascinating technique where your image emerges from a single block through successive layers of colour. Each week, you'll add a new hue to your work, gradually building depth and complexity as your design develops through various stages.Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned artist, this printmaking experience combines structured technical guidance with plenty of room for creative exploration. We'll make sure you feel right at home with the equipment, helping you cut safely with traditional tools and understand how to achieve accurate registration for those crisp, multi-layer effects.What you'll learn:

• Translate an idea into a print design and transfer it onto a lino block.
• Cut lino safely using traditional lino tools.
• Design a multi-coloured print using the lino reduction method.
• Plan and sequence layered colour stages.
• Mix inks and layer colours to achieve the desired result.
• Use printmaking equipment, tools, and materials correctly.
• Understand registration methods for accurate multi-layer printing.
• Develop confidence working through a structured printmaking process.

By the end of these sessions, you'll have gained the confidence to navigate a structured printmaking process from start to finish. You'll walk away with a small edition of original, vibrant prints and a newfound appreciation for this rewarding craft.Course structure:

• Week 1: Introduction to linocut. Create a single-colour print and learn how to design, carve the lino block, apply ink and print using the printing press.
• Week 2: Design your multi-coloured lino reduction print. Carve the block and print the first colour. Introduction to colour mixing.
• Week 3: Continue carving the lino block and print the second colour layer.
• Week 4: Continue carving the lino block and print the third colour layer.
• Week 5: Print the fourth colour layer to complete your edition of multi-coloured prints.

Note: The September course pauses for half term from 26 October to 1 November and resumes the following week.
