Monthly Poetry Workshop

A poetry workshop for every month of 2026

18 hours total (over 12 dates)

Class size 1 to 30 (public dates), 1 to 50

  £8 - £12 (£8 for Concession Entry; £12 for General entry)

These generative workshops are an invitation to pause and make time to play with poetry, write and connect with other writers, and nourish and expand your creative practice. The focus is on you getting lots of writing done, and you'll leave with at least three drafts to take away and work on.
Join me on the 3rd Tuesday of each month for an hour and a half of exploratory writing fun.
Each workshop will be themed and we’ll look at three poems on that theme by poets we love, and have a go at some our own writing in response.
Themes are released early in the month, you can check out the Poet Notes Instagram @rhillpoetnotes for upcoming themes!
So far we've had: Water, Earth Songs, Letter Poems, Portraits & Self-Portraits, and Birds. June's workshop will be Ekphrastic Writing (writing in response to visual art!)
These workshops aren’t sequential, so you can come to as few or as many as you like.
Each one will open with a short freewrite, we'll then alternate between looking at some brilliant example poems and doing our own writing.
I’ll be writing along with you and there’ll be an optional sharing circle at the end for us to read out anything we’ve written, or share any other thoughts.
The meeting link will be emailed out to you the day before the workshop - if you haven't received this please get in touch.
As a working class writer I know all about coming up against pay barriers so there's three tiers of admission for these workshops. If you can afford general admission please know it's greatly appreciated, but concession and donation entries are available for those who need them.
Who am I? I'm a Manchester based poet and poetry facilitator; I run the Norther Quarter's monthly poetry open mic & gallery evening: 'The Space Poetic', am a Manchester Writing School MFA student, and writer at 'Poet Notes' on Substack. During 2025 my work has been published by Ink Sweat and Tears, Ver Poets, Ghost Light Lit, and Superlative; and awarded by The Barn Owl Trust and Wirral Poetry Festival (2024).
Knowledge required
No experience necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
What to bring
Yourself and an interest in poetry, writing, and creativity. (And something to write on/with!)
Session repeats

After the first session, the next session is: Third Tuesday of every month.

Hi, I'm Rachael and I believe in the importance of creating space for artistic pursuit, even when modern busy life makes it really super hard to do so. Poetry and its pursuit have and continue to bring me personal insight, peace, and profound joy, and I want to help everyone find that space and connect with the things they want and need to explore.
I'm a Manchester poet and creative human; founder of The Space Poetic, a hybrid event bringing spoken and written poetry together in a monthly poetry gallery and open mic in Manchester's Northern Quarter; a current MFA student at The Manchester Writing School; poetry workshop and events facilitator; a 2024 Comino Poet in Residence; writer of ‘Letter as a jellyfish to all my ex’s, all of you’ which was awarded a runner up prize in Wirral Poetry Festivals’ 2024 Competition; writer at Poet Notes on Substack... oh and some of my poems have appeared in several small anthologies and been both long and shortlisted in some well known competitions including The Fish, The Plough, and Bridport Poetry Prizes. Recently my piece 'Venn diagram featuring working class wages and lemons' appeared on Ink Sweat and Tears.
Anything else? Oh yeah, when I'm not busy wording I'm probably making friends with street cats, lolling around in sunny parks, or out rock climbing, hiking, and exploring.
Why come to my workshops and events? Because they're a safe and welcoming space for anyone and everyone no matter your circumstances or previous experience to come and spend some time enjoying being creative :)
I can't wait to write with you friends!
