I'm Karen, owner of Margaret May Soaps and passionate artist. I've always loved traditional, handmade soap and using natural ingredients, and I can't wait to pass on these skills to you through my fun soap making workshops.

The name of the business is my grandmother's, Margaret May, which appears as MMaySoaps in the logo and stamped onto the soaps. Margaret May was a strong and feisty independent Somerset farmer’s wife. She set up several small businesses herself. She was fascinated when I went to art school and then went travelling. She would have loved these products and the local business ethos. She would also have been familiar with soap making on the farm especially in her childhood and during the war.

Whether you're looking for hen party ideas, a date night with a difference or just want something fun and creative to do, give one of my workshops a go.

i did this class with my friend for her 60th birthday. The teacher was fun and informative. I was very impresses with her knowledge of the health and safety aspects of soap making and also her knowledge of the legislation surrounding making and selling soap.
She managed to make the lesson fun and also simple in essence.
The venue was lovely and gave lots of space and fresh air which was needed.
The class was excelent value for money. I hope Carol will go on teaching her craft for many years to come so that others can enjou it as we did.

we were made to feel welcome and at home from the moment we arrived, and our teacher explained everything so well.
There were lovely little extra touches like baking a homemade cake for us. Everything was so organised.
We were gripped throughout and excited to make and take home our own soap ready to cut.
Would highly recommend.

What a lively afternoon. Our tutor was fabulous; friendly and so knowledgeable. She welcomed us with homemade cake and a selection of drinks. Everything that we needed was provided and she guided us through the process smoothly. We each left with our soap and a lip balm, which she also demonstrated.

Karen was an excellent host and teacher, I bought the soap making workshop for some family (and myself) as a Christmas present - we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, Karen taught us so much about the soap making process, and answered all of our questions along the way
It was also brilliant to lean about Karen’s own soap making business, and how simplicity can create really gorgeous products
The value for money of this workshop is also excellent, we were very well catered for with lovely tea and cake too
Thank you Karen, for letting us into your lovely home and providing such an excellent soap making workshop! I’ll definitely be telling my friends to get involved

Fantastic Soap making workshop, host was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about soap making, I throughly enjoyed the experience and was made to feel very welcome. The home made cake was much appreciated and delicious along with a cup of tea during our break.
I can’t wait to try out my homemade soap when it is ready in a few weeks. I also bought another product in the gift shop which I’m looking forward to trying.
Thankyou very much for hosting such a fabulous workshop!

I loved this workshop! Karen welcomes you into her cosy kitchen and feeds you tea and cake before giving a skillful soap making demonstration. You then have the opportunity to create your own soap with all the materials provided. Karen is very knowledgeable as well as lovely, and I really liked her approach of keeping it simple and accessible. I also liked that she told us about the history of soap making, and about her experience setting up a soap making business. I felt the class was really good value for money, as you get to take away 5 bars of soap, then there's the workshop itself and all the materials needed were included.
Overall I found the class really interesting and quite relaxing as well, and getting to cuddle her adorable puppy Ruby was also a huge bonus!

This fabulous workshop was held gently and thoughtfully and we took home lots of goodies…we were also refreshed with tea and cake! Thank you so much for a wonderful time.
